Bob B 103 Posted October 18, 2010 This letter shows that all Police Chiefs have been notified that they cannot limit the number of Pistol Purchase Permits (PPPs) issued to an applicant. This is one of the filings in ANJRPC's OGAM lawsuit. Part of the lawsuit was a complaint that many police departments were limiting the number of PPPs. NJ's response was to have the NJSP issue a letter to all Chiefs of Police, notifying them that they were not authorized to limit PPPs. If your PD is limiting PPPs, hopefully this letter will help. The relevant language is in the last paragraph, 2nd to last page. I saw the last paragraph posted in another thread, but I was not able to find a thread with the complete letter -- apologies if I missed it. GoNRA 12 Posted October 19, 2010 Seems the state police have added a lot more info to their firearms section since last time I was there. http://www.state.nj.us/njsp/about/firearms.html
njpilot 671 Posted October 23, 2010 Cool. Thanks for posting that Bob. Hopefully that will end the problem of departments trying to limit permits. Anyone still having any problems with their police dept. should print this letter out and bring it with them.

njpilot 671 Posted October 25, 2010 Hey Mods, Could we pin the letter in the "NJ Laws" section?
sig2009 3 Posted October 25, 2010 Interesting read. I especially liked the 1st paragraph talking about C&R licenses. A lot of good they are in this state when you still need a pistol permit to purchase.

halbautomatisch 60 Posted October 27, 2010 Are your towns collecting $18 for the SP each time you apply for PPP's ? Mine's been doing it since 2008. They want you to pay for a backround check before they give you permits and again when you do the NICS check

They want you to pay for a backround check before they give you permits and again when you do the NICS check I just applied for 3 more at one time last week. In fact the person in the office told me I should apply for at least 3 to make the $18 worth it. I thought it was $18 for EACH of them, but they said no, go for broke and change the 2 to 3 get your money's worth.
Bob B 103 Posted September 29, 2011 It's good to hear about police departments that are getting it right. I always ask for 6 because you can get the 90 day extension.

MadeInAmerica 2 Posted February 13, 2013 Lakewood only charges $2 if I remember correctly.
Howard 538 Posted February 13, 2013 I just paid $5 for my FID, $2 for each Pistol permit and something like $58 for finger prints in Randolph NJ. While the private company that does the prints makes some money here, the other fees probably don't even come close to covering costs to do this.

If you plan it right you could get 6 handguns in 6 months.

MattH 0 Posted February 13, 2013 NJSP background check is $18 each time you apply for permits regardless of how many you put in for. P2P are $2 each payable to local PD.
