.50 BMG In NJ? Where to shoot

Is .50 BMG guns legal in NJ? If so, where can i shoot it. I dont know of many ranges that offer ranges over 200 yds. Also I shoot at fort dix usually, Would They allow it?

CJRPC has a 300 yard range, that is that largest that I am aware of in the immediate area. You probably wont find much in this area to take advantage of the full capabilities of the .308 let alone a .50 BMG.

IIRC Central Jersey does not allow .50 BMG. The rules are on the web site at http://www.cjrpc.org/index.cfm?wpid=14

Hey Brother,

Cumberland Riflemen in South Jersey allows .50 BMG, and has a six hundred yard range. It's a private range however, so you'll need to join to shoot there.

I love CJ, but I wanna shoot further.

 

oh and FWIW, CJ does not allow any 50 cal centerfire rifles.

AFAIK, Old Bridge doesn't have any caliber restrictions on the outdoor range.. but at only 100 yards.. its kind of like peeing into the wind with a 50.

Hey Guys,

It was a little touch and go over the years. Your best bet is to just send them an email and get put on the waiting list ASAP. I was on years ago, when they kept a much smaller membership number and it was a real PIA. I mailed in my dues, but forgot to include the label off my NRA Magazine(you have to be an NRA member). They sent it back, and by the time I mailed it back in, I had been knocked off the membership roster and had to wait a year to get back in.

More recently, they increased the size of the membership, and when I contacted them about joining, it only took me a month to get in. I might have gotten lucky with the timing though. I think they are doing the membership deals twice a year now, but I could be wrong. I had to go meet them for an interview with the board, pay my fee and show my now Life Membership to the NRA(Annual membership is fine for joining). After that, there is one day of NRA safety training you'll get a couple of certs for, and then you are good to go.

I used to shoot at Range 14 all the time but got tired of the 200yrd limit. I would love to have something out to 600yrds which would be a little more challenging. You would think you could punch Range 14 another couple of hundred yards back into the impact area without a problem...

FWIW manegement at the South Jersey Shooting club has told me that the rifle range is going to be pushed out to at least 600 yds and they are going to have a special lane for 50's. I told them if they did that, I was in

I also believe they restrict .50 bmg to Friday Afternoons(like 2 to 4pm or something) meaning 300 only and they kindly ask that you use the leftmost ports because the backstop isn't as beat up. I.E. It's not very viable.

Cherry Ridge is also a members only range and your only able to shoot the 50 I believe once a week.

Yes they're legal. There was a bill that made it through the assembly and senate to ban them but Christie vetoed it.

Sjsc allows it. You just have to let them know.
