FID & PP Card Township Paperwork Requirements

Recommended Posts

One of my friends sister-inlaw is going to apply.  My friend lives in Connecticut and asked what the process it for applying in NJ.

I asked where she lives.  He said she lives in Jersey City.  I told him to tell her good luck.

Is Jersey City online now?  I'm sure they are still making it difficult to apply.  I can't even any links or information on the Jersey City Police website.

I told my friend to tell her to contact her local PD to inquire.

All the towns are online you have to go to the state police website but you need the towns ORI number prior to doing the application

My wife and her friend recently got their FPID cards and purchase permits around TWO WEEKS after getting fingerprinted. This is a record for Newton, for us. Is this the new normal for NJ? My brother lives in S. Jersey, claims it took 4 months last time he tried to buy a handgun.

I got my handgun permits in 10 days out of the Augusta barracks. The ability to issue quickly is clearly there. However the actual run time can be slowed by any particular NJSP barracks or local PD delaying the approval checkpoints. Hence the disparate results statewide.

Is this very recent then? My brother waited from October to, I think, February. He also has to go through the state police. I think my wife's friend does as well. Somebody musta given this system a YUGE enema because it appears to be unstoppered. Something is fishy (maybe). I recently dealt with two other agencies in Trenton, for an estate and for citizenship. The estate transaction took about 3 months for two forms to go back and forth, and we were told the other issue would take ONE to TWO YEARS. The reason, of course is DA VARRIS.

April 3 to 11. Ten days from start to finish. Sgt. Hollar at the Augusta barracks definitely holds up (as in moves along) his end of the permit stick. Fastest time I ever recorded since I left Randolph in 1994.

Haven't seen anything for Woodbury on here or in general...

Applied 1/12/22 for 1 FID and 1 handgun permit online

References received 1/12/22

Fingerprints on 1/20/22

I reached out to Woodbury PD on 2/18 and they reported having received the first stage of the background check on 2/3, and that apps have tripled etc, usually its 30 days but there could be delays. And that's all I have so far...will update as it goes. The PD was very quick to response and thoughtful in their response. In my 10 years in the town, they seem to be a well run unit, so we'll see how much longer this will take. I may send a letter to the chief early next week. There's a sale on a 92x perf that I really want to take advantage of considering the crazy local markups I've seen (1700)

Woodbury hasn't requested anything further of me, and I was told everything is with the detectives for the last step before going to the Chief for approval. Would not take payment until approved.

Chief Ryan told me that they are still experiencing a high number of applications. They work on the permits when the detectives are not busy on other cases.  You should get it next week.

I'm not trying to be a wiseguy, but am sincerely curious as to what the local PD actually has to do when processing an application? Other than 2013 when it took 5 weeks, my township has never taken more than 30 days.

I think they call the employer to verify information on the application. Some towns do and some don't.  They run yet another criminal background check that the state just ran. The chief then gives his approval.

It's all bullshit compliments of the PRNJ that tries to make getting a gun as difficult as possible!

Ladies and gentlemen,

I am attempting to collect each towns requirements for the FID card and Pistol Permits. If you happen to pass by your local police department, stop in and ask for all paperwork required for each. Or if you know your townships are all online, download them and email them to me. You can either scan them and email them after you get them, or mail them to me.

Thanks

Tom

As I do not want to start a separate thread on this, does anyone know where one can obtain info on the status of an FID application?  I submitted an app on line for an address change over two months ago, and have not gotten any updates.  My local PD has no info, saying it is in the hands of NJSP,  and I cannot find any place to contact NJSP.
