MosinRob 1 Posted August 10, 2013 Anyone use CCI #11 magnums? Good, bad? How do they compare to Remington #11?
ReadDude 0 Posted October 1, 2013 where can I find any regular #11 percussion caps? I just came into 20 year old T/C New Englander and trying to get setup. Are there any good locations in Central/North Jersey to buy caps and/or Pyrodex?
Smokin .50 1,907 Posted October 1, 2013 Caps are available at some NJ locations, but always best to call and make sure! Dixon's in Kempton, PA as well as Cabela's usually always has caps!
MosinRob 1 Posted October 1, 2013 simon peter had some, but pa is always a better bet
ReadDude 0 Posted October 1, 2013 I may be up Simon Peter way this weekend, will check if so. Thanks. I really picked a bad year to get into reloading AND Black Powder!
Smokin .50 1,907 Posted October 1, 2013 If you ever want to shoot Black Powder with a nice group, Rob and I shoot at a Farm in Vernon and Old Bridge's Black Powder League. And we share supplies... Dave
ReadDude 0 Posted October 1, 2013 I may take you up on that one of these days. Hunting is my priority right now. Bow, and trying to get ready for my first Muzzleloader season in NOV/DEC! I've only got one in the freezer so far, so I've got some work to do :-)
MosinRob 1 Posted October 1, 2013 What kind of projectile are you planning on using? If I may, I think I have some pyrodex I could sell you if you like. I don't use it in my guns
ReadDude 0 Posted October 1, 2013 I am shooting maxi-balls with Pyrodex. I am probably going to mold my own bullets since its look pretty hard to find .54 caliber commercially. My acquisition included about 30 bullets and a mold too! I would be interested in the Pyrodex!
MosinRob 1 Posted October 1, 2013 Yea I'll check the powder safe and see what I got. I'll give you some .54 r.e.a.l conicals too. I make them so I can spare a bunch. I find they shoot a little more accurately in my guns
pbkid6974 1 Posted October 1, 2013 I just got into the muzzle loader scene too. I've had luck with just plain patched balls. A 2-2 1/2 inch 5 shot group from a bench at 100 yds is plenty accurate for me. Plus it is way cheaper than buying any other type of projectile.

I just got started too, but going with the inventory I have so starting with the Maxi-balls. I will probably try patched balls at some point. I am kinda getting hooked on the paraphernalia of black powder and muzzle-loading. I like to tinker, and this appears to be a tinkerer's game. Similar vein to reloading but easier to get started. ReadDude 0 Posted October 3, 2013 What are the hours you guys meet?
MosinRob 1 Posted October 3, 2013 First shots at 9 am. We start out with the pistols. Then we go to the rifles. I usually try to get there at least by 830 to help set up and stuff. Probably won't get to the rifles until about 10 o'clock. Come on down and say hi
