M&P 15-22 Barrel Shroud

Recommended Posts

So in order to install these you either need a threaded barrel or a thread adapter correct?

yea, it looks that way. the threaded adapter for non threaded barrels attaches via a set screw, but the shroud still screws on.

So on order for this to be legal the shroud now has to be pinned as well? how would you pin it?

Most from the factory NJ compliant 15-22's I've seen don't have threaded barrels. My only hesitation with this item is the question about pinning the adapter and/or shroud and if the shroud does in fact suppress any flash.

I'm stuck on the pinning part. If the shroud has to be pinned to the threaded adapter, it looks like the only way to do it would be a permanent solution (JB weld or tack welding the shroud to the adapter). Which how i see it would make the adapter now next to impossible to remove or attach to the barrel.

I'm not even sure the shroud has to be pinned.. Technically the threaded adapter will be "pinned" via the set screw.

I emailed Kineti-Tech for some more insight and he said he regularly ships to NJ. So theres people out there with these.. I'm curious to know their solutions....

Ok. The shroud cap is removable. so you can pin the cap to the threaded adapter, slide the shroud body over the barrel, secure the adapter to the barrel and then screw the shroud body into the cap.

adapter is pinned, shroud is pinned, you're NJ safe and G2G

I'm gonna order mine today. even though my Fiance wont let me shoot my M&P 15-22 until Christmas...

I'm not sure if I was clear before....

If the barrel is not threaded - you are ok

If the shroud adapter I'd not a permanent part if the barrel per ATF guidelines it is not part of the equation

The law only applies to two things...

A flash hider

Or

A threaded barrel capable of accepting a flash hider

Which is the last issue... Does the shroud suppress flash? No idea, but if it does... No go...

But with all that said I don't see the use in all this.... You are just putting a weight on the end of a gun....

I mean your gun... I get the look... But it's kind of a waste...

just for thought..

I had something similar on my CX4 storm.. it took me about 2 months to realize it was a stupid purchase...

*pay to make front of gun heavier gain no operational advantage"

I have one on my storm also. Every time I start to think it was a stupid purchase, I remember a long summer day of shooting last year, where I went to transition to my handgun, and a scalding hot cx4 barrel smacked me in the shin. lol

just throwing this out there....

single point sling? if there barrel of your gun is hitting your shin there is a different problem that has to be addressed..

Single point that attaches at almost the pad of the stock. Hangs rather low, even when tight around my upper body. I was leaning forward as I ditched the Storm and stepping forward at the same time, and it swung down and hit me good.

it's kinda like that, but instead of the attachment point being right by the hole, it's further back, closer to where that buckle is.

I would seriously reconsider that setup... if you go to sidearm and move with any purpose that carbine will be swinging all over the place.. I used a single point on my storm when I had one.. that lasted about a week.. I switched to a 2 point and Magpul RSA on the top rail (just like the link you provided)...this let me move aggressively after transitioning to sidearm..
