New toy

I picked up a new toy at Oaks today . Zastava M77 .308 with 2 10 round mags. Problem is i couldn't find extra mags and the only place i can find them online is Century International Arms (Zastava importer), but they won't ship them until i send in some sort of ID release form, WTF. Anyway can't wait to get out on the range with my new toy.

Nice rifle. I don’t know anything about that rifle but does this work for you? Also did a quick search and looks like there is a hack to get M14 magazine to fit a M77?  Maybe check that out as well

I guess you could say I have your rifle’s cousin.  I have Saiga in 308 and it is a fun round to shoot. The original factory eight round S308 mags were like finding rooster teeth but I did luck and find a few. The aftermarket mags are OK but a little clunky.  Good luck with it.

Hey I am very interested in this... I have the original Zastava PAP in 7.62x39 (unfortunately I got the matching polymer furniture like your .308, I thought I would be getting wood but when I got to CMO to pick it up it was the polymer and they were like, "Oh well you want it or not????".

 

I am thinking either Vepr 308 or this... I like the Vepr because I can get a 16.5", change the stock and forend, and use it as both a battle-rifle and designated marksman rifle.... (Plus mags are more readily available).

 

But I love this and Zastava makes fine fine firearms, people don't know how nice of a gun they produce.  Very interested to hear your results.  This to me is more of a straight-up designated marksman rifle but would like to know how you feel about carrying it as if you were carrying it during SHTF situations.

Without the scope it is surpisingly light, 8.2lbs on the bathroom scale. Would be heavier with wood furniture. Unfortunately i wont get out to the range until after new year. Will post a report once i do

I am actually conciderring cutting off the lower bridge between the pistol grip and stock. Seen it done on a CX4 once, it came out pretty nice.

What type of long range (200-300yd) accuracy would you typically expect to see from an M77?

Well, it's taken some time.  Got the slam fire issue fixed and completed all the mods, it is finally finished.  Took it to the range this past weekend and after zeroing the scope at 100yds, I think it's pretty damn accurate:

What was the slam fire issue all about? What did you do with the brake?

Had the firing pin shaved a few mm by a gunsmith, it was sticking out past the bolt face, it was double firing. The brake is a spikes dynacomp, pinned and tack welded
