M1A + modstock legal?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a long range gun I can use for target practice.

I'm interested in the M1A standard version with a VLTOR modstock: http://www.vltor.com/socom.htm

Does this have 2 "evil features"?  A telescoping stock and pistol grip?   I'd have to have the stock pinned, correct?

I am unsure if the M1A has a threaded barrel or flash hider standard.

Actually, here's a pic of the modstock on a SOCOM M1A:

Looks like it has a permanent muzzle brake?  Is there a stock version of the M1A without a flash hider/threaded barrel/bayonet lug?

Oh, another thing.  Does this VLTOR modstock count as a telescoping stock?  I think it's adjustable, but does that really count as telescoping?

I've not had my hands on this gun, but that looks like the most fragile means of mounting a scope that I've ever seen...    The attachment of the buttstock to the receiver doesn't inspire confidence, either.

as a general rule you dont want to pin a flash hider or comp onto an M1A because it inhibits your ability to remove parts of the gas system for cleaning.

This ^^

The Socom comes with that trick little gass block/ brake assy.  The M1A standard has a longer barrel with a non pinned flash hider on it.

Believe it or not that's a good mount but it's backwards on that m1a it's how you catch your parallax cause it's mounted that far forward
