Ak47 maadi build

Recommended Posts

I know someone with a maadi kit laying around and I'm thinking about buying it. I wish I could build it myself, but I don't have the tools or know how. I'm think I'm gonna have a builder rivet the receiver and press in the barrel and check the head space. I will buy a nodak spud receiver with the rails installed. I want a good job done, but I don't want to wait forever. I don't want it refinished as I believe these are battle rifles and should be treated as such. Who would you guys use? Can anyone from this site do the work?

I looked into doing it myself by buying all the tools from toth tool. If you are only going to make one.. its not cost effective.

I wish you luck because its a cool project.

I have heard that paterson gunsmithing does a decent job with aks.

I'm hoping to get a custom built AK sometime this year myself and several names that have come up as competent AK builders were . . .

Arizona Response Systems:

Piece of History Firearms:

Rifle Dynamics:

Guns Northwest:

In Range C2:

FYI - I've never had any work done by the above companies. Just only read reviews by others about them.

Most of the reviews I've read were found on various sites such as www.ar15.com, www.falfiles.com, and www.akfiles.com.  BTW - If you plan on using US made wood furniture like Ironwood Designs, there maybe some wait time there too.

Ironwood Designs:

Combloc Customs:

TimberSmith:

I'm building this as a battle rifle. As in a battle field pick up. I'm not having it repainted or put nice new furniture on it. I want this one raw and original. I'm not happy I have to put a new receiver on it, but I'm going to beat the crap out of it to match the rest of the rifle. I have the high end ak's. They are nice and I don't want to scratch them or almost not even shoot them. I'm building this one and putting it to the test. I want to dunk it in water, fill it with sand and shoot the hell out of it. Should be fun.

Y don't u talk to George from Paterson Gunsmithing. He knows AKs in and out , not cause he is Russian but cause he actually went to izhmash Gunsmithing school in Russia. he is a really good guy. he can build anything u want.

try JBIArmory.com   he is in Denton TX.

He builds some insane stuff and will be building my (2) Russian kits.

You can see his work on his facebook page too.

a Khyper Pass Krink clone is on my short list, but $$$ is holding me back.

If it were me, i'd buy the tools. Its just satisfying to do. Plus i'm never happy with anyone's work.

Agreed. One of the best parts of doing a project is getting more tools.

But, the jigs for riveting will run about $600. A cheap shop press about $150. And 1 go and 1 no-go gauge. You'll want an end mill and a reamer in a drill press. A grinder for the evil lug. A vise is handy. A bore site laser will help. That should get you through it.

Once you've got that, you'll want more kits because one build isn't enough. A Maadi is definitely on my list.

If you go to youtube and look up ak47 kitchen build, you will see a series some guy did on how to do it using tools from toth. A lot of guys on akfiles really like them and they are small. They definitely cost some money though.
