Upcoming Oaks, PA Gun Shows 2/7-2/9 and 3/28-3/30

Recommended Posts

Went yesterday with the wife, thought it was a great (OK, it was the first show I have been too).

As other's said, ammo prices were nothing special, better deals found online when it goes on sale.

LOTS of new/used handguns on display. Didn't buy any, but it was nice as a beginner to see all the different kinds, models, antiques, etc. that were available, fondle them, ask questions, etc. Prices were high.

LOTS of rifles, shotguns and literally tons of ARs on display. Prices on the ARs ranged from a meh deal to overly priced. I am guessing deals were there, but unless you scanned the entire show and then bought, you probably would find the same AR 5 min later for a higher/lower price. Wife got a Ruger 10/22 with a laminated stock. It sure is purty..  ;)

I did hear many attendees and vendors griping about how long NICS  was taking, upwards of an hour in some cases. Wife's NICS came back in about 2 minutes at about 4pm. I guess she got lucky. At the same time there were about 5 guys from PA at the same table who were waiting for 45 min and still no info. Score one for the Joisey girl!

I picked up some odds and ends for an AR build, but some of the stuff on display at those booths was no-name junk. Unmarked BCGs for $200+. Umarked bolts $70.00 - $100.00 (yes just the bolt). Barreled uppers $400-$800.00. One booth had everything under the sun from Magpul, prices were a shade above average, but worth it for those who were there and needed something. Some tables had cardboard boxes with AR odds and ends stuff in it, looked like junk to me...

Right across from that Magpul booth was a guy selling scopes, lights and lasers at pretty reasonable prices. Nothing top end, but picked up one scope anyway.

The reloading supply booth (Northeast?) was pretty packed.

Oh, and BACON!!!! There was a deli guy in the way back right hand corner with bacon in vac packs at $6.00 / lb. Picked up some of that, had it for breakfast this morning. Go to gun show, walk out with AR parts and 2lbs of fatty pork goodness LOL. Go figure.

Last thing - I was proud of myself for this. Thanks to reading and research on here, I was smart enough to ask a question before buying. Magpul flip up sights go for about $90.00 a set no matter where you go, and they come in single wrapped packs (basically you buy 1 front, 1 rear). There were a few booths selling them for $40.00 a set in a cardboard box. On the surface, looks like a deal, right? So I came across one guy who wasn't busy, and asked the question - "are these for airsoft or ARs?" His response was "Well, since you asked, they are for airsoft, but I don't promote/sell them that way because most people don't mount them to the gas block so they USUALLY don't melt). Thanks, but no thanks!

So, I picked up my railed gas block on the way out the door, hopped on the shuttle bus to the parking lot and headed home.

Side note - if you are in the mood for some real good inexpensive comfort food, stop at the Cock and Bull restaurant on 202 in Peddlers Villiage - Lahaska. Took my girl out for a bite to eat. Nice place, ran into a NJ guy chatting about the show on the way into the place.

That's my on the ground report for a first timer. Looking forward to the next (big) show, and MORE BACON!

Did she get the 10/22 with the red laminated stock?  I REALLY liked that color....was tempted to buy it myself.

How come they don't have shows like this in NJ? Is it "against the law" or just not worth the hassle?

http://smartgunlaws.org/gun-shows-in-new-jersey/

While New Jersey does not explicitly prohibit gun shows, state law significantly restricts the sale of firearms at gun shows. No retail dealer is permitted to conduct a retail business in a mobile or temporary facility.1 Mobile means “a facility easily moved from one location to another.” Temporary means “not having indicia of permanency,” and a “temporary facility” includes, but is not limited to, garage sales, flea markets, gun shows and exhibits.2

New Jersey generally prohibits any person from manufacturing, transporting, shipping, selling or disposing of any handgun bullet comprised of specific materials, although the state explicitly allows licensed collectors of ammunition to transport certain ammunition from the collector’s dwelling, premises or other land owned or possessed by him or her to any gun show for the purposes of display, sale, trade, or transfer between collectors.3 See the section entitled Ammunition Regulation in New Jersey for more details.
