PTR91 Scope

Recommended Posts

Same dilemma here. I tried two different Z-24s and sent them both back because they were in awful shape; I was looking two years ago - no idea what they're going for now.

I did like the Leupold VX-R (#4) 1-4x20, but then my permits came in, so it got put on hold. But I think that or a Leupold 2-7 would be nice. Right now, all I have are irons and a good MFI Scope Mount, though, for when I finally do pick up something.

I seem to be on a Nikon kick, so whenever I get my PTR, I'm thinking one of the Nikon M308 scopes will be on the short list.  I'm also thinking about one of the fixed 10x scopes I came across when searching for scopes for my .17, that just weren't appropriate for my uses with that caliber.  I currently have a Nikon Buckmaster 6-18x40 and Buckmaster 4.5-14x40 on my better [bolt] rifles, and I will be upgrading other rifles to Nikon glass in the future.

I just can't get into the original G3 scopes...I like a nice big objective lens with some serious magnification.  It's a problem, because the same applies to my camera lenses...

I bought a Z24 5 years ago when they were plentiful and I I love it especially with the UTG reticle illuminator available for it. I don't know what they are running now, but the last that I looked they were around $500 or so. For the money, you won't find a scope with the same quality optics for that price, even if it is more than the $300  that they went for originally when they were everywhere. If you choose not to go with the military surplus scope, then RTG Parts has a really nice low profile picatinny rail that you can use to put whatever scope you want on for $29. http://www.robertrtg.com/store/pc/LOW-PROFILE-HK-SCOPE-MOUNT-27p1939.htm
