Looking for fishing lake with small boat rental near Jacksonville

Recommended Posts

Not sure if anyone here is familiar with the fishing scene around Jacksonville, but if you are...I need to find a lake that has a boat rental place nearby or lakeside. I am not looking for a guide, I just want a small boat me and my buddy can fish with for a couple of days. One of those plastic boats with trolling motor would be fine. We fish for largemouth only. We will supply all our own tackle.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Head towards lake Okeechobee you will see places to rent boats all over the place. The lake it self in my opinion is over rated and over fished but the canals usually produce well. You will also have the chance to catch some exotics such as oscars and knife fish. I caught a 6+Lbs oscar in a canal on the south side of the lake I thought I had a grouper. I usually do the best with top water lures running them fast along the saw grass islands.

I have actually done just that. Stayed at Roland Martin,s marina. It is actually his ex wife's, not his. Can't go that far south though. Neead to stay near Mayport/Jacksonville area.

I was kinda just hoping to find a pearl in my clam, you know, one of those....I have a friend who's friends dad's cousin owns a cabin and rents it out for a hunered a weekend and it includes beer and a boat. Oh, and her college age daughter may be hanging around tanning on the dock if you don't mind....

Yeah I know... More likely to get my CCW in Jersey...

Thanks anyway.

I have fished out of the same marina too. I don't know of any places off the top of my head but what I usually try and do is search for some tackle shops in the area before you go down and call them up. they are usually happy to point you in the right direction.
