Wood stock sets..

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any good companies that sell complete wood kits for ak47's. I just purchased a wasr10 a month or so and i am not very impressed with the wood finish. i have thought about maybe putting a lacquer on it or something along those lines but it just feels rough and unfinished. I am very happy with the rifle its self but i would like to change out the existing stock set for one that is of better quality and more appealing.

Thanks

For cheaper, the Timbersmith Russian Red furniture looks really nice.

I am looking into getting some Iodine Orange furniture for my Mak-90. That will be from Combloc Customs and cost me a bit under $300.

I dont like the shape of the tumbersmith products.  The palm swells are backwards on some of them which bugs me.

You can make original wood look really awesome in one evening.  My RPK came with the same wood that is on the WASRs.  Here is before & after

Wow thanks, looks like I have a bunch of options. Currently looking at timbersmith red laminate or black laminate. I think I may try and refinish my stock set that is on the gun first and if that doesn't turn out the way I like hen I will go ahead with the timber smith set ups

This is a SAR1. Original wood stock. Not the best grain on the wood but I am happy with it.

Stripped it using zip strip. Sanded it with 100, 150, 220. Stained it with 3 coats of Minwax gunstock color. I like it dark, so I did it 3 times. Finished with glossy spar varnish. I now prefer to use lacquer or shellac in a satin finish.

I forget how I stripped it...lol.

Recessedfilter showed me how to do it, it was awhile ago.  I'm sure he can chime in.

The coloring was done with RIT dyes and and a miniwax stain.  Thats all I remember :/

I did two sets the same color, its pretty cool having a matching '74 and RPK!  The '74 wood is the blonde bulgarian wood.

Sparks450. I will reiterate once again...do it yourself, I'm telling you. It's soooo easy!

Here is a set I did for someone. This was the second set I did and it came out great. As you do them more, you get the hang of it and can perfect different things.

Sort of on topic I guess... Has anyone ever purchased an Arsenal Buttstock and Handguard set (NATO length) from MidwayUSA that they can comment on? It's not made of wood but the price and quality look pretty decent ($87.99 with the $20 off coupon code!) Thanks.
