Cheek Risers on a Bolt Action anyone?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a minimalist cheek riser for my Ruger Scout Rifle.  I'm not into the Karsten style, nor am I into the add-on pouches.  I bought an Accu-Riser,  but I would prefer to just have the rubber top piece over the edge that would screw into the top of the stock.  The channel isn't wide nearly enough, so it won't stay in place without drilling holes thru the top..  Any clean looking DIY projects?

Here's a stock photo.  I'd prefer something that didn't protrude down the sides nearly as far.  I could trim it, but I'm not sure how clean I could make the cuts.  I was thinking of buying u-channel shaped rubber, but I couldn't find anything in the right size.

i saw some great videos on youtube with using Kydex. You can actually heat it and mold it, but it was for the style above.

Look for Boat rub rail molding. A piece of that may be exactly what you're looking for. Check West Marine, or Overtons. Maybe even stop by a local marina see if they have a scrap laying around.

One of these should look great on your gun.  Just run the last lace behind swivel stud and it keeps it in place.

I have two or three of these.  They're challenging to get positioned and locked in nice and tight with the cord supplied.  Once locked in though, they work and will give you a good rise.  They're not "really comfortable", the foam rectangle is stiff and the nylon covering is rather rough.
