They don't know what CCW is in Trenton - unbelievable

Recommended Posts

I was listening to the testimony in Trenton today on the internet.  Our side did a great job of presenting our case, but of course they did not listen.  The amazing thing was that the joker Mainor  who is a cop had to stop a speaker to ask what this CCW thing was that he was talking about.  He said he did not know and imagined others on the committee had no idea either.  These are the jokers that make our laws :(

I think he knows.... I just think he needed to have the testifier state the words "carry concealed weapon" for the record, to ensure it was the same term and understanding as his.

I think the appropriate response should have been "if you have so little knowledge of firearms you should remove yourself from these proceedings as you are clearly unable to make a contribution of any value"

Yeah! That would have accomplished a lot.

And being polite accomplished what? Please remind me.

And Cryan couldn't even be bothered to do his job, show up vote yes then leave, very polite.

And WTF is this magazine clip they keep blithering about.

I don't think he is smart enough to do what he did.  He interrupted the person and said "I don't know what this CCW thing is you are talking about" and others on the panel might not either.  If he knew I would have expected him to say something like some people here might not know what CCW stands for I would like to clarify it or would you clarify it.

Being polite accomplishes several things.

They can't accuse you of being a jerk. As you know jerks like to do their jerky thing, but the first time you act like a jerk in response they accuse you of being a jerk. All anyone ever notices is the jerky reaction, not the original jerkism.

I would like to think that civility is also responsible, at some level, with things not being worse than they already are, and definitely will be after the next gubernatorial election.

And finally, there is always a tiny chance that somebody on the other side will actually listen, maybe even act on, your argument if you present it politely. There is NO CHANCE WHATSOEVER of accomplishing that if you act like a jerk. You might even turn off your supporters. Imagine a R legislator having an affair with an anti-gun D legislator who's being insulted by someone giving testimony.

Why was anyone blabbering about CCW at that hearing? Why? The hearing was about two proposed laws that have nothing to do with concealed carry. NOTHING. At best the antis thought the speaker was a crackpot; at worst he pissed them off.

I'll bet he then went on a rampage about the second amendment, the Framers' original intent, the divine mandate to protect children and small companion animals, and how Jesus wants us to have guns, all of which he could prove if given just 15 minutes.

These arguments do nothing to further our cause. If they cared about the Constitution or common sense they'd never have been elected. There is enough experience and law in and from 47 other states to use as ammunition.

^^^^^this

We should line up cogent, reasonable people(preferably minorities) to give consistent and understandable testimony in these cases. Limit the sound bites that our adversaries will highlight to make us look like sociopaths.

Our opponents are organized and use talking points. We should employ the same tactics.

I agree with you guys completely. There was no reason to bring up CCW at the hearing. Same thing with the Nazi references and acting like we're being persecuted like the Jews under Nazi occupation. It makes us look stupid.

Is it really that hard for people to stay on point?
