Norseman 2 Posted March 26, 2014 Anyone have experience with Comp-Tac gun belts? Saw a good review on YouTube but if I'm gonna spend $100 on a belt I haven't seen in person, I want to see if there's more than 1 good review. http://www.comp-tac.com/product_info.php?products_id=43 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
High Exposure 5,664 Posted March 26, 2014 I have one of their Contour belts. It's pretty good. I still wear my Ares Gear Ranger belt 99% of the time though...
Norseman 2 Posted March 26, 2014 I want a leather belt that can look like a regular dress belt too. Maybe if I get into the competitions I'll get one of those ranger style belts. You think their leather belt is worth the extra or would a Galco be the better buy at around $70? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wojo 98 Posted March 26, 2014 I have one of the non tapered 1.5" brown leather, brass buckle, shown for several years. It is thick. Some dress pants belt loops are maxed out with a single pass thru and can't handle the additional material that comes back around after the buckle. It is so thick, that weaving it thru a Safariland belt loop holster is a PITA. Using this belt IWB or with a paddle style holster and decently made cargo pants (5.11 or similar), Carpenter / Blue Jeans and Dockers with robust belt loops is wear it excels. When you are dropping a deuce, or tucking in your shirt, it is nice because your rig doesn't capsize.
Norseman 2 Posted March 26, 2014 Guys thanks for the input. I'm in jeans 60% and Dockers 40%. Keep in mind unless Jersey changes I won't be able to cc unless traveling to states that honor Utah non-resident ccw ...which likely won't be that often. Probably once a month for trips to PA, and maybe some other trips around the country. So it'll be EXTREMELY rare for me to cc in a suit or "dress" pants ...if ever. But if the occasion comes up and it really means enough for me to have the option I'll deal with it at that time, ya know? So with that in mind would you suggest the 1-1/4" with stiffener insert, or go with the 1-1/2"? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wojo 98 Posted March 26, 2014 I went with the 1.5" because I wanted the thickness. Dress / suit pants tend to have the smaller loops, but jeans dockers take the 1.5 with ease. I also use 1.5" in my instructor belts and what not. For me that size is a good compromise. If you are on the job and carry a metric ton of crap, then the 2+ gear belts make sense. If you are just slinging a pistol and a few mags, I think the 1.5" is a good across the board.
High Exposure 5,664 Posted March 26, 2014 I like 1.5" as well. Mostly because all of my holsters and carriers are made for the 1.5". Again, I like the Ares belt much better, especially for what you are talking about. Like Wojo, I keep the CompTac around for days where I need to dress up a little more. The area is more comfortable and just as sturdy, even without any gear hanging off it. The Ares belts do dress up ok though, especially their new Aegis belt. Norseman 2 Posted March 26, 2014 Does Ares make a leather though? The ones I saw all looked like nylon. This is the company the ATF raided right? I would buy from them just so I know the profits are going to a company that feels as strongly about the 2nd Amendment as I do. High Exposure 5,664 Posted March 26, 2014 No, different company: https://www.aresgear.com And they don't make leather, but IMO their belts are still very presentable and professional looking.
Norseman 2 Posted March 26, 2014 Ah ...I'm partial t leather. (Just my preference). I really like this Comp-Tac as of now. I'm still reading other threads and what people have to say about the Galcos, etc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted March 26, 2014 Beltman - 'nuff said
Norseman 2 Posted March 27, 2014 I was sold on Beltman ...looking at videos on YouTube I saw that the glossy finish wears off on the top and bottom edges that come into contact with belt loops and attachment points. Have you had that happen? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted March 27, 2014 My everyday belt is by the Beltman . It is worn everyday as well as used for IDPA matches. It is at least four years old and shows only wear commensurate with that time and use. Adios, Pizza Bob

Wojo 98 Posted March 27, 2014 Pizza Bob...nice stuff from Beltman. I just might be ordering an all black with seven holes in 1.5".
