Which Walther is Better?

Recommended Posts

I have 3 permits coming in soon, 2 are spoken for already. I have a few different types, calibers, sizes and styles of Handguns already. This will not have a designated purpose. I plan on some range time, just to have fun and for anything else that might come up.....My question is: Which Walther is better? The PPQ M1 (or 2), PPX, P99, PK380? I don't have a favorite caliber so I'm good to go with 380 on up. Is any one models quality superior than the others, or Sub-par from the others? If you had to grab 1 of these and bet your life on it, which one would it be?

PPQ either version. The only difference is mag release, M1 has European trigger guard release and M2 has traditional.

I have the 9mm 4" and its my favorite gun in my collection.

I been looking at PPS but not finding them locally, Also the 99c but also havent been seen locally.

My PPQ M1 is my current favorite. I mean everyone has a "button" style mag release so I say if you were only going to have one handgun go with a button style. But if you're going to have more than one, for some variety try the M1 so you have something a little bit different in your arsenal.

As an M1 owner, I have to say that I'm stil undecided if I should have gone for an M2. I only have a little over 200 rounds through my M1, so keep that in mind. With enough practice and usage, the cons might no longer be an issue.

Pros for M1

- lever release is very easy to manipulate with short fingers

- if you've going to have a gun with a lever mag release just for the sake of variety, it may as well be the PPQ

- you like having a ton of magazines, compatible Magnum Research mags can be sourced much cheaper compared to OEM.

- Before, PPQ holsters tended to be designed around the M1, but with the M2 having been out for a while now, it might not be as much of an advantage as it used to be.

Cons for M1

- If you're heavily trained on button mag releases, the lever will be annoying. I keep wanting to shift the gun in my hand to reach my thumb for the mag release button. Are you going to encounter a situation where a delay in locating the mag release may mean life or death? While I'm tempted to say that's a low probability, I don't know what you're going to be using the gun for or what situation you might find yourself in the future. Again, with enough training, this might no longer be an issue.

- I often find myself touching the trigger when doing a mag change. This may or may not bother you.

I practiced like 5-10 minutes a night for a week or so and I'm used to the paddle release now. I'm just doing range plinking with it - it's not my HD gun either so I don't plan on needing to defend my life with it. I just wanted to try something different and based on all the video and text reviews I bought a new one sight unseen and have zero regrets.

The PPQ M2 is my favorite 9mm pistol out of all the others I have owned or tried.  I am way more familiar with the button release which makes its use seamless over the PPQ M1.  However, I wont deny the "different or cool" factor of the M1 but I rather be practical I suppose.  Can't go wrong with either, the Walther is a fantastic pistol.  I have about 1000rds through my M2 without a single failure from all types of ammo.
