Pheasant hunt

Recommended Posts

Well My wife went trap shooting last year and loved it. So after going with me a bunch of times she said she wanted to go pheasant hunting. Well I took her the other day and she is hooked lol. She ended up shooting two birds. She did pretty good for her first time. Smokin' .50 and I used our 10 gauge muzzleloaders which made it even more fun. Was a great day. Now she was talking about deer hunting but we'll see lol.

That's Steve Cruz's place, Best Pheasantry in Westtown, NY. (PS - NY's extended semi-wild season closes tomorrow.)

Yep, that's the place!  Steve hadn't yet seen what it takes to load a SxS without cartridges/shells until I showed him.  Started with capping-off to clear the nipples and then loaded both sides.  He escorted me by foot to the field our other two were already hunting in.  Upon the hunt's end, he commented that he could feel the earth shake as the 10 ga. roared to life, lol!  I would venture to say we might have been the first  muzzleloaders to ever visit.  Having TWO hunters using muzzleloaders is extremely rare, and the odds of that ever happening without Rob and I going back together , well, Steve would win the lottery first, lol!

Nice place, could use some sorghum planted in the open fields  (they are planning to do this).  A little mushy with soft soil/mud, but it was a terrible winter here.  I would definitely go back when the ground was a little more firm (say during the fall).
