jermz1987 243 Posted April 16, 2014 Last time I was at Chyannes they had 2 Romanian SARs for sale. So he must be fine with selling AK style rifles now.
Scrap 4 Posted April 24, 2014 I remember this going down. This was a HUGE deal. Apparently IO Inc had called several of their models "AK-47 xxx or " AK-47ABC" etc. Christie's attorney general (who was recently appointed at the time or something?) decided it violated the law and was all fired up about it , and there as huge panic. I can confirm the CMO part because I had bough two of the original Zastava PAP 7.62x39mms that summer, early and late. I wound up selling one of them back to them right after buying the second, because of a huge emergency vet bill I needed money for ASAP. But I had kept the second. They messed up when calling me because it was not in fact the PAP but I guess the guy who called either got the info wrong or had messed up reading paperwork etc. When I returned the phone call voicemail a few hours later they told me it wasn't involving me *YET* but who knows what was going to happen in the next day or few days. I did some phone calling as did my father who is a retired police commander and he called some friends etc. The info we got confirmed it was the naming of the models WHICH WERE STAMPED on the rifles, so the model name/number was on the receivers like 'IO AK-47ABC123" and they decided it violated the ban on AK47s. We never saw any storm troopers but more than one source said that they were in fact threatening that... It could have been a whopper that gained snowball size as it went downhill but yeah, people were definitely saying that's what the word was. EDIT- when I say "The Ban on AK-47s" I mean, AK-47 is banned by name in our state AWB language so while things like the Zastava PAP for example (PAP is the three letters in Serbian that start the words Semi Automatic Rifle) has no reference to AKs, it's a 7.62x39mm sporting rifle [based on the Kalashnikov action). The IOs were supposedly violating the state AWB due to AK-47s being banned by name.
