Anyone in Ocean County that can help me take apart an M1?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys - I recently purchased a used Springfield Armory commercial M1 garand.  The previous owner painted the stock OD green and I would like to refinish the stock so that it looks as close to stock as possible.  This is my first garand, and it is also rather old and somewhat rare.  All this being the case I am hoping that there is someone local to me that wouldn't mind helping me take it apart so that I can strip the paint off of the stock.  I would hate to break something during disassembly and drop the value of the rifle.

I would be more than happy to come to you and bring beer and good company, maybe even some ammo :)

Wish I were closer so I could help. There's really not that much you can screw up. Pulling the trigger guard back is the hardest part. It helps to put a bullet in the hole to give you some leverage. Then there's a little bit of brisk tapping to separate the action from the stock, and it's smooth sailing from there.

Blake,

I have the tools...................................

That pic made me cringe...

But seriously if you have the gas port tool and have experience taking one of these bad boys down we can figure out a deal for you to help me out...
