Fishing, hiking and jeeping in south western North Carolina

So this fall I will be spending a week in Franklin NC and will be doing allot of fishing. I am asking to see if anyone knows of any good rivers, streams, creeks or lakes for trout fishing. I will be staying on Lake Nantahala and I do know about the salmon fishery on the lake and already have that covered but I am just trying to find some other spots that I should check out. Just looking to fish for trout. I am also looking for some good hiking trails and some good forest access roads to explore with the jeep. Any info is greatly appreciated!

Im not sure how great the trout fishing is in NC if it exists at all..trout can't survive in waters that reach a temperature of 74*F or above. I would research that a little bit.

 

As far as wheeling in NC last year I went with the club I belong to as a group. We went to Uwarie National park. (Spelling?). Great time and decent wheeling, different than the terrain here but still good. We stayed in local cabins right near the trails.

Thanks deer slayer I have heard about Uwarie and its a bit of a drive north east from where I am staying but I might have to take a ride up there one of the days. The trout fishing however is some of the best in the east in the Smokey mountains. The lake I am staying on even has land locked salmon and has the only salmon run south of the mason Dixon line. So I know the trout are there I was just looking for any first hand info of good streams if anyone had any but I knew it was a longshot.

No problem, that place and the outer banks are the only two places in NC I've ever been to. If your interested in going to RC, were doing a ride there on the 31st. I cant make it because I'm swapping my front Axle and installing an atlasII transfer case and it won't be done in time. But i know we have about 5 rigs definitely going for sure. I'll PM you the info if your interested. Also doing a parade in Mt. Arlington (Morris county) for memorial day on Monday the 26th. Your welcome to come. As well.

I cant make the 31st but thanks for the offer. Let me know for the next time and I will definitely go. I have to work on Monday the 26th (sucks I don't get off for any holiday) otherwise I would come to the parade also.
