Help identifying this knife?

I recently purchased a whole bunch of stuff as a package, and this bayonet is stumping me. Everything else was US milsurp stuff, but I have no idea what this is. Any help would be appreciated.

 

Ps - lots of holsters,1911 mags, and pouches going up in the marketplace soon

Those symbols make it Japanese.

 

Figure-eight inside a circle (Nagoya Arsenal mark) and diamond with a rectangle inside (Toyoda Automatic Loom Works mark)

 

Looks to have been definitely ground down and possibly had the hilt reshaped.

Was just going to say, the bottom circular mark, is a japanese proof mark.

 

Most likely a bring back with Arisaka from WW2.

Actually, I am 99% positive it is an Arisaka Bayonet, based on the proof marks and the sliding hole, which would fit perfectly on my Arisaka.

That is a cut down bayonet from a Japanese Arisaka type 99 rifle.

 

It is a later war production type, as the two arsenal marks show it was made

at one factory under the supervision of another arsenal (hence the two marks)

 

The Arsenal marks are not listed on the sites I have visited, but the one is

very close to Tyoda.

 

keep in mind, there are many Chinese fakes on the market, that are made to

look old & real.

Not saying it's fake - just haven't seen these marks before.

Thanks for the responses guys. Makes sense it would be japanese, the gentleman who owned it before me was in the army and served in ww2 and korea. I will update with whatever else I find on it.

Check this out:

 

I did some checking and it's possible that the bayonet is a last ditch production and that is why the 

arsenal marks & fuller appear a bit off (possibly due to poor QC at the factory near the end of the war).

 

According to the attach Arsenal marking chart, I believe you have:

 

       

Toyada Jidoshoki Seisakusho (Toyada Automatic loom works) under Nagoya Supervision

 

Toyada is the symbol on the left,  Nagoya is the one on the right (which was the Master Armory)

 

Toyada Automatic Loom later became the company we know as Toyota

Late war bayonet for jap type 99 rifles. Design was modified late war to be easier to produce much like the last ditch rifles. Looking closer at the blade it was definitely cut down post capture so any value it did have isn't there any more.

 

I'd definitely like to see more pics of it though. I love seeing weapons used by the Japanese and seeing a late war production bayonet is pretty cool.

Probably a field mod to make a trench knife. I own one were the blade has been made to a clip point and the grips replace with Plexiglas
