John3754 0 Posted April 25, 2014 Never been to Range 14, would like to do some pistol shooting and want to know what I need to bring to set up both paper targets and to plink bottles and cans. Thanks.
Blake 50 Posted April 25, 2014 Bottles and cans can be pushed into the sand at any distance past 15yds. No glass if I recall correctly. As far as targets you can buy them there but bring 1"x2" ferring strips so that you can bury them and staple your targets in. Alternatively you can buy target stands from a few forum vendors (TJ's Sporting Arms has them) and then you just put the wood in, staple target, and you are good to go. R14 is good when you begin shooting, but if you want to experience a great shooting environment come visit CJRPC. More $/yr but so worth it.
Steve_G 51 Posted April 25, 2014 I haven't been to range 14 in about 5 years but, I believe it was about $60 to join plus the hourly fees. They have paper targets mounted to 2x3's for sale and they loan you a post hole digger to put them in the sand.
Lien 1 Posted April 25, 2014 Ground targets must be placed at 25 yards. I have a few Birchwood casey ground strike targets that work well. I usually make my own paper targets with a 2"x3" and cardboard. Tape some reactive 8" targets on the cardboard. I try to bring a post hole digger because there are only a few available and they have seen better days. As mentioned, you can purchase paper targets there for about $4 each. They also have some ground strike targets for around $30. I like to bring my 8" steel gong for some AR-15 fun. Tho, steel targets must be placed at 200 yards. Scorpio64 5,120 Posted April 26, 2014 I use 1x1 hardwood stakes from home depot and staple a sheet of dollar store foamcore to it. To that I can staple four home printed 8.5x11 targets. The ground at R14 is sandy and soft, the stakes are easily driven into the ground with a large hammer or a small sledge. I haven't done bottle and cans yet but I'm planning on using two stakes about 5 or 6 feet apart and stapling a string with the targets already tied to the string. Quick, cheap and easy. Dirt diver 0 Posted April 26, 2014 I bring a small pick axe, it digs into the sand nice and deep with one swipe. Easy target set up. I use duraseal double kongs mounts on two 1 x 1 x 8's
Fred2 367 Posted April 27, 2014 Bring a staple gun, in case you knock the target off the wooden stake as you are driving it in.
Stonecoldchavez 92 Posted April 27, 2014 When I go used to go there, I used a Realestate "for Sale" sign as my target holder. Goes into the ground real nice; no digging. Just staple targets to the cardboard or plywood. I have brought used water bottles filled with water also. In the past they allowed you to bring pumpkins and watermelons. Not sure if you are allowed to anymore as I think people never cleaned up the scraps. But I am not sure.
