Glock Sight Installation

Recommended Posts

So my fiancé decided to purchase a Glock 20 to enjoy at the range.  I have 2 questions.  Technically, it's hers, under her P2P.  If  I wanted to bring it to the range, once we are married, can I transport it without her present?  Does marriage change anything regarding ownership of firearms?  (Do we become co/owners of each other's firearms?)

My other question is she wanted to go "all out" and get night sights installed.  The shop is not going to test fire the pistol to make sure of the accuracy.  Should I be concerned about the install?  My understanding is the windage will likely need correction.  Thanks in advance.

Assuming you are in the people's republic of New Jermany if it is her P2P it is her gun.  You can shoot it at the range with her there.  If you transport it without her and get stopped you will be the winner of free room and board and medical care in one of NJ state run "hotels".  But the good news is they have nice weight rooms and law libraries, from what I hear. :)

Sorry can't address the sight issue, well I could, but my opinion would not be worth reading.

Totally agree, How about this curve ball. I moved from free America to Jersey with the wife, I am not required to register my firearms. NJ has no idea who the owner of said firearm is. Now what happens.

Q10. I have moved to New Jersey from another state. May I continue to possess my firearm(s)?

A10. Firearms which have been legally acquired in another state and are legal to possess in New Jersey may be brought to New Jersey by the owner when residency is established. The owner may VOLUNTARILY register the firearm(s) by completing a Voluntary Form of Firearms Registration, however the owner is not obligated to do so.

Does everyone keep a copy of each P2P when they transport hand guns?  Or is the FID card enough?

I don't, I keep them home in the safe, FID comes with me when I go to the range so I can buy ammo if I need it. That's all your required to have to transport your gun. (& even that has some gray areas) If you got stopped to or from the range or gun store that's a legitimate excuse to be transporting. The police would probably just run the serial numbers to make sure the gun wasn't stolen. I suppose they could contact your home town to find out if that particular firearm had a permit in your name also. But I'm not sure on that one.

I've been pulled over before with a cased shotgun on my passenger seat (2 seater car with no trunk). Cop just asked where I was going and if the gun in the case was unloaded. I replied, yes its unloaded and I'm going skeet shooting. I also had a case of clay birds and a thrower on the floor with my range bag with my eyes, ears, and shells. He took my word for it and sent me on my way. Didn't check anything. I live in Sussex County, recreational shooting is common around here. If I was driving through Newark the encounter would probably have been different.

Best course of action while transporting in this state is: "out of sight, out of mind". How often does the officer ask to search your vehicle during a traffic stop? Its never happened to me in 20 years of driving history in NJ.

A good smith will mark the center of the current sight then install the new sight on the same center. Even if you need to adjust the sights, it is very simple. Just use a plastic or brass punch and a small hammer. Tap it right or left, they will move fairly easy.

I've replaced sights on many Glocks.  I always center the rear sight in the dovetail and have never had to adjust windage after checking zero.  Does the shop have a range?  If so, they should check zero if you're paying to have the sights installed.

Thanks.  The shop doesn't have a range.  I was just curious how they would check the accuracy.

i keep a copy of the P2P in the case with the gun underneath the foam..  but since ive been using pistol bags the last few times i went, the P2P stays at home.. not necessarily a horrible idea to have it, but not required

this is what I have been doing. but I feel I should make a copy and just keep the original filed with my other firearms stuff, then leave the copy under the foam just to be certain

If you just want standard 3 dot night sights you can get them direct from Glock for $57 including install and return shipping.  You just send them your slide and they install them.  They don't take a barrel and frame from another Gock, put it on your slide and test fire; they just center the rear sight and ship your slide back.
