Catch22LR 0 Posted May 22, 2014 I can't find speed loaders for the 8 shot s&w model 63 4th generation. I found some for the s&w 317, but I'm not sure if they'd work in the model 63. Does anyone know if there are any speed loaders I could use with this gun?
Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted May 22, 2014 Since the 63 and 317 are both 8-shot J-frames, the speed loaders should work in both.
Catch22LR 0 Posted May 23, 2014 I'd try the one for the 317 but it's 30$. One reviewer said it worked in their 63 another said it didn't, so that's not great odds for that price. What about speed strips? Anyone know of any 8 round 22 speed strips? I'm having trouble finding anything other than 6 and 10.

Or did it just not work well in either As I said originally, both J-frames, both 8-shot cylinders. A J-frame, is a J-frame, is a J-frame - dimensionally they are identical. A speed loader that works in the one will work in the other. I have never seen speed strips for rim fire rounds. Adios, Pizza Bob
alec.mc 180 Posted May 23, 2014 I agree with Bob, it'll probably work just fine. And 30 bucks is pretty standard on a 22 speed loader. You'll also need to have a " loading block " for it so you can quickly load the speed loader. I'd skip the speed strip idea, might as well load by hand if thats the case. Catch22LR 0 Posted May 23, 2014 Thanks for the info guys! I didn't know j frames all had the same dimensions, I thought the letters had to do just with the overall size of the guns. I found some of those blocks you mentioned, alec.mc, definitely beats getting 5 speed loaders. I'll probably buy the speed loader and block after trying one competition with the gun and seeing if I want to keep using it or switch to another gun. Pizza Bob, the reviewer isn't clear about what exactly doesn't work, he says he would like an instruction manual. May not have been a problem between the 63 and loader at all come to think of it. Guess I might be finding out for myself soon enough. Thanks again!
Catch22LR 0 Posted July 13, 2014 I got that speed beez 8shot loader and the 4 ring loading block and they work great together. The loader is a tight fit with the gun, but it works. So my question is, how do you maintain your speed loaders? Do I have to oil it or anything?
djg0770 481 Posted July 13, 2014 Grips can interfere with speed loaders making something work in one j frame and not in another
Sixtytwo327 14 Posted July 13, 2014 Good choice; just saw this thread and was going to recommend the Speed Beez. I have two for my 617 plus the loading block and case. Maintenance? Not that I'm aware of - oil can trap dirt, so sparingly if at all - I leave mine alone.
