Scrap 4 Posted June 30, 2014 Colt has debuted an AR-AK hybrid ... a 7.62x39mm rifle with a direct-impingement operation system, monolithic upper & 16" barrel with 13" SBR in the future, supposedly compatible with all available polymer and metal 7.62x39mm AK magazines, and of course it's made by the Pony Express of Colt. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2014/06/30/colt-ak-7-62x39-colt-ck901-released/ I am a fan of both 7.62x39mm and AKs and I would probably love to have one of these. If I could afford an ACOG to go with it, (Many do not know there is a 3x30 ACOG in 7.62x39mm -calibrated BDC made by Trijicon) I would be very happy. No word of price or civilian availability yet. HOWEVER- I DO REMEMBER , I myself saw an article of Texas Gov. Rick Perry firing what was thought to be the LE901 in 7.62x39mm and no comment was ever made on the picture of him firing it by Colt or anyone. Maybe this was that rifle? I mean it had to be. Displaced Texan 11,738 Posted June 30, 2014 I remember seeing that pic of Gov. Perry shooting that rifle. I think you are correct, it is the CK901. I just bought, but haven't received an LE901. I wonder if the 7.32x39 CK901 upper would be compatible with the LE901. The mag well on the CK looks a little different. Would be interesting if they are compatible. Scrap 4 Posted July 1, 2014 Man I am very jealous that is a hell of a rifle!!! I never owned a Colt but I really would love one, something about Colt, in all things, just sets them apart. A Colt 1911 has prestige, a Colt M4 /LE9240 etc. is just different than even a comparable quality AR, etc. Congrats man that's a great rig. I am out of 5.56 and into the 7.62x39mm and .308 Win calibers so I also would be very interested. Especially if it was both!

Polak 3 Posted July 2, 2014 Non piston? no thank you. That's going to be a nightmare to clean with the "super clean burning" 7.62 ammo.
Scrap 4 Posted July 2, 2014 I guess I would prefer a piston AR over a non-piston AR if I had to choose between the two, and when I was spec'ing out a 7.62x39mm AR I was going to go with a piston, but I would be fine with this rifle- and I have a strange, strange feeling that Colt knows what they're doing, and if they're happy with it as a Direct Impingement gas system I would bet they know it's going to work fine. I don't know stuff about stuff but I am sure Colt does.
T Bill 649 Posted July 2, 2014 The great piston vs DI continues................. Lube it up with FireClean and your GTG. Bolts clean a lot easier.
