Sellers remorse. I think I may have screwed myself

Recommended Posts

So I wanted to clean out some items I never really use, and a Beretta Storm caught my eye.  I picked up the Storm in 9mm to compliment my FS92.  Same mags fit both.  The Storm is a fun carbine, with a nice case, extra mag, cleaning kit, and a side rail attachment if needed, although the full top rail should be sufficient for me.  But anyway....

I sold off a Stag 15 and a S&W M&P 15-22 plinker plus about 4000 rounds of .22 brass.  The used market is terrible all of a sudden.  We agreed on a price based on gut feeling, and also based on the fact that neither of these models had ANY bids on ANY of the auction sites.  But I took a beating on the hardware.

I should have checked for any interest here before I pulled the trigger, but a quick cash deal with all the official paperwork on the spot made it seem like a semi-ok deal at the time.

I'm trying to commiserate, but I don't know if holding on to them for a few years and hoping for a price bump would be worth the wait.

Arent cx4 storms going for around $700 new?

A stag even in a crap market should have been an even swap. Your 15-22 would have sold quick for $325 and even if you sold the .22 at nice guy prices it still adds up to ~$250. If you got rid of all that for the cx4 the other guy got a great deal. Sorry :(

If you buy a new gun you lose money when you buy not when you sell. I guess it depends on what you paid for the Stag and S&W and what the value of the Beretta is to you. Now your mags and ammo are cross-compatible, is there a dollar value on utility? By buying 9mm in lieu of .223/5.56 you are saving money. Will you now be enjoying it more?

Well, no it wasn't a swap.  I bought the Storm from a shop and sold the other stuff to my local FFL.  No relation to each other in this transaction.

The Stag had no frills, no sights, no scope, no rails even.  It would have been more expensive to fit it out just to entice the average customer.

I do value the utility bit.  I still have a S&W MP15 that takes the 5.56, so basically I just need to maintain that and 9mm going forward.  I passed on the .45 Storm for that reason, although that could change at some point.

Whenever I went to a range, I ignored the 22 and the Stag because one was too boring and the other too heavy (and not even allowed at many public ranges).  I'm not hunting at 300 yards, so it was just taking up space.

When I bought the Stag, it was the only 5.56 they had in the store at all.  This was during the Obama frenzy.  Now they are on clearance racks for 799 fully equipped.

dont cross off the 45 Storm for non utility reasons as it too shares its mags with the Beretta/Stoeger 45 cougar hg. I have that cougar but havent yet decided on the cx4 to pair with it. BTW I also have the 92/cx4 combo and if I want I also have the swap kit to let the 9mm cx4 share mags with my 9mm cougar......so yea I like the utility part too!

I tend to only sell if I find I just plain don't like a gun that I purchased. If I sell because I feel like I'm not using it enough, it bites me in the ass as eventually I'll wish I didn't sell it.
