Fishing trip on July 18 - LBI

Recommended Posts

If anyone is looking for something to do next Friday morning, a few friends and I will be hopping on the Miss Beach Haven open boat to see what we can catch.  Boat leaves at 8am sharp and gets back around 12:30pm.  Located at the Beach Haven Marina on the island.

Cost is $40 per person, which includes rod and bait.  They also have a snack bar on the boat.

Anyone interested, drop me a note.

+1 for the Miss Beach Haven and the Beach Haven Yacht Club. Both are great operations owned and operated by great people. That dock is my home away from home. I wish I could make it next Friday. Good luck!

Yes, really nice crew.  In fact the best crew I've had on both private charters and open boats in 30 years.  I've never had a college girl as a mate before (except for my wife, but that's a different story).  Penn State student on summer duty.  She said "don't be a wuss" when I was trying to grab a fish off hook to release it.  Too funny!

I haven't been fluking for years because I suck at it, but these fluke were hitting on every drop of the line.  Unfortunately they were all shorts, but it was fun to pull them up.  I think next year might be a banner year once they hit the size limit.

I only wish they had more food than chips and crackers.  I was starving.

Im glad to hear that you had a good time! like I said the miss beach haven is a great boat and always has a top notch crew and in my opinion which is admittedly biased beach haven yacht club is the best public dock on LBI. I usually spend my thanksgivings at the marina striper fishing with Susie (the owners daughter) and during the summer I have had great luck with weak fish right off the dock (but you cant fish off the dock unless you have a boat there). I spent some of my high school summers working the gas dock there too. I cant say enough about them! But yeah I always pack a cooler with plenty of food and beer because the snack bars are never enough. The fluke will still all be shorts next year too because the size limit was upped for recreational fishermen but not for the commercial net draggers so they will scoop up all the fish that are almost to our limit so it will be full of shorts next year too. The secret for catching doormats is to fish with large bait, you will catch less fish for sure but the ones you do catch will all be keepers. I prefer to use live 4-6" snappers(baby bluefish) if you can get some of them and keep them on the bottom you will catch a doormat for sure. My wife outdid my personal best by catching  28" 8.5lb monster with a snapper that I rigged for her.
