Nucrunner 75 Posted July 19, 2014 I’ve had my M1 Garand for over a year, in that time I’ve put just under 400 rounds through it, (including 2 CMP shoots). It’s an SA with a receiver serial number in the 327XXXX range, the barrel is post war 1953. The rifle was purchased from a very reputable local gun store. All I have ever shot through it was brand new PPU 30-06 Springfield FMJ (150 gr) for M1 Garand ammo. I don’t single load nor do I have a SLED, but I’ve always use a 2 rd, a 5 rd, or an 8 rd en bloc clip. The 2 and 5 rd clips are purchased, they’re nothing I made myself. Yesterday I loaded up the 2 round en bloc clip, and attempted a sight-in shot at 100 yards, the rifle fired both rounds with a single trigger pull (in WTF-auto fashion). I have heard of “slam-fire”, I’ve also heard of the term “bump fire”, the slam fire is why I always use an en bloc clip and don’t single load. What do you think I experienced there? I’d appreciate any thoughts or comments on what happened there, Do I have an issue with the gun? Do I have an issue with the ammo? Does the shooter have an issue? Is this some kind of an anomaly that the M1 shooter needs to be aware of, something that that is not unheard of, anyone else have an experience like this? Thanks! JT Custom Guns 956 Posted July 19, 2014 Since the Garand has a Free Floating Firing pin, my guess is you had a Slam Fire. Try dis-assembling the bolt and cleaning the firing pin, your problem will most likely be solved............ Good Luck!
T Bill 649 Posted July 19, 2014 Clean gun, esp. bolt. Retry. Using same clip, then different clip. If problem continues, look into problems with trigger group.
1563621 388 Posted July 19, 2014 Could be an ammo problem also.
usnmars 136 Posted July 20, 2014 Soft primers, sear worn, firing pin sticking. Put the trigger group in a friends gun and see what happens.
