AB-10 Legal in NJ?

Recommended Posts

On the AB-10 JR (as shown) is legal due to being under 50oz.

The std AB-10 has a barrel shroud which makes it illegal due to the

shroud & the weight.

Then again, you need to have the mags blocked to 15 rds.

I have one of these in my personal collection, mine is the AP-9 - cool gun!

So the one I posted is a no go? Just wanted to confirm. Sorry for the dumb question didn't want to pull the trigger and get one only to find out it's illegal

By standard AB-10, do you mean the TEC-9 configuration with the long barrel shroud? The AB-10 I'm looking at in the pic has no shroud.

I couldn't find any AB-9 or the AB-10 "JR" versions, I've not un the up and up with intratec firearms so I have no idea...

A "JR" is w/o the barrel shroud

AB-10's and AP-9,s both come in two configuration

Std = with Shroud

JR =  w/o shroud

Thanks JT!

I'm buying several different pistols and having an FFL in central/north Jersey hold them until I'm 21 in September (will apply for a pistol purchase exemption sine I'm building a pistol collection and shifting from rifles to pistols).

@RUTGERS95 Purchased this for $300 including shipping to the FFL, need to send out a check and of course wait until I'm 21 w/ permits to take possession. They seem to go for $250-$400 average.

I also found a out of state guy to pin the mags for me :)

Really neat to own a AB-10, always wanted to have a TEC-9 to play with and this is as close as it gets in NJ :)

Personally, I'd save my money for something better.

just curious - Why should he save his money for something better?

If it appeals to him, and he wants one for his collection - what is the problem?

Just because you don't care for it, doesn't mean someone else should spend their money differently.....................

BTW, 10 round mags exist for these, too. anyway, off to work

VERY difficult to find - believe me, I've looked!

Best way to block the mags for this gun is to dis-assemble the mag; remove the two lower

plates (floor plate & shoe).

The floor plate is the inner plate that the spring hooks to - weld a bolt to that plate long enough to

prevent the follower from coming down any farther than 15rds and your good to go!

Good Luck!

I wouldn't be one to regret it, I've always wanted one to hang on the wall (I have a lockable wall cage). For $300 I can't complain, if I hate it I'll sell it back or I can do to get it running as close to 100% as possible.

I VERY rarely shoot pistols, I VERY rarely shoot rifles/shotguns. I enjoy purchasing firearms to display/collect and shoot them once in a great while....sell them and start with something new again. I'm not a match shooter or one of those that works the firing line every week (usually 4 times per year!)

I would rather collect the odds and ends (vest/pocket pistols, the AB-10's, etc.) and at the end of the day buy a good S&W wheel gun or semi for home protection.

I'll be looking into the blocked mags versus the 10rd mags, the blocked mags give the AB-10 the correct look and you are defiantly right, the hi-cap mags are cheap compared to the factory 10 rounders and pinning/blocking them from a guy I know is $5 per mag.

JT, Good point, everyone is different and everyone has different taste when it comes to firearms.

If I was in the market for a HD handgun, it wouldn't be a TEC-9/AB-10 but since this is for display I would rather put that extra money towards a 22 Ruger target pistol and a wheel gun.

Anyway JT, Thank you for your helpful insight and please people...let's all get along!
