Ask that lady in Florida about the warning shot.

What happened?  My first reaction might actually be to fetch the Mossberg and rack the slide.  If they take off, good.  I'm guessing the lady got into some hot water because she fired a warning shot?

I would imagine that it would be illegal discharge in NJ.  Luckily we have ultra-responsive police in my town.  There would be four or five cruisers here within minutes of the call.  So maybe best to leave the Mossy where it sits.

The point about letting insurance deal with the aftermath is a good, sobering point.  On the other hand, I'd be on the hook for the $500 deductible in any case, which sucks.

Yeah, there's some very relevant details that aren't being mentioned in the "20 years for a warning shot!" outrage on this one.

- She wasn't on her property.  She was violating a restraining order by being in her husband's house - she and her husband had mutual restraining orders

- She went from the living area of the house to the garage to her car to get her firearm, and then returned to the living area.  In other words, she could have left the scene entirely.

- She fired a shot near the head of her husband which hit a wall and then ricocheted to the ceiling.  Her shot was not aimed at the ceiling.
