Florida Non Resident CCW

Recommended Posts

Is it worth getting a Florida non resident CCW?

I have one, but then again I also spend a bit of time in FL every year. I also have Utah and Arizona for "cross reciprocity" should something change in one of the states.

For my situation it appears to be of no use. I can't carry in PA. I go to Vermont and NH almost every year, but I can't drive with handgun thru NY (even locked in trunk, unloaded, etc...).

I don't forsee myself going below the Mason Dixon line so not useful for me there.

However, I do have one. Got it prior to PA nixing NJ residents to carry there. PA was the only reason I got it since I am there almost once a month. Oh well. If I had to do it all over knowing PA would cut us off then I would pass and buy more ammo instead.

Eeek! I did just that when I went to Vermont last week.

Last I knew about 90 days.  If you have your application number I believe the website lets you track its progress if I remember correctly.

Yes, it does, and few others do.  here is the wesbite - >  Florida Dept. of Agriculture & Consumer Services

On Line 5), you can check the status of your application by entering the App # (T-something) and your birth date.  It will tell you the status. What you want to see, eventually is the "Issued" status.   I agree about 90 days.

One of the nice things about FL CCW is that, although it is $112.00 for non resident, it lasts 7 years... two more than most others (UT and AZ are 5 years each).

Good Luck. :)

So, just for fun I had a look at the Florida ccw web site.  If I read it right, all I need to do is send them a copy of my hunting license as proof that I completed hunter education here in NJ and that would satisfy their requirements for training.  I don't even own any handguns but I may do this just for the hell of it.

Mine took about 49 days to receive. they give you an ID # with the application, if you call the number on that piece of paper and enter your ID # it gives you your status. Don't loose that number!

Yep firearm Hunter education certificate (the actual card you got when you took the class) is accepted (not a copy of your hunting license), NRA pistol course, or proof of military training.
