Kimber45 3 Posted August 6, 2014 Hello all. Starting to get my reloading equipment togather for my 300 Blkout. Looking for a mini chopsaw but the harbor freight one is discontinued. Anyone know where i can get a similar one? Also who makes the fastest and best jig for cutting 223 down to 300 .... thanks all
T Bill 649 Posted August 6, 2014 Amazon has some listed. Mini-miter saw. Not as cheap as HF. Do you have a table saw? Make your own jig and do several at a time.
Kimber45 3 Posted August 7, 2014 I thought about making that wooden jig so i could cut down a dozen or so at once but i dont have a band saw.or a tablesaw... I guess i could rig my sawzaw in a vise and try that but i do kinda like my fingers...lol...thanks T bill I did contact Harbor freight and they said i might e able to order one on their web site
T Bill 649 Posted August 7, 2014 Remember the 20% off coupon found monthly in the NRA publications and other ones.
Wikkie2204 0 Posted August 7, 2014 I bought the HF one, and hated it. Either the WFT or the CTS trimmer work well. I don't cut my brass down anymore, I just full length resize and pop it in the trimmer. Edges come out square. Probably about the same cost as the saw. T Bill 649 Posted August 7, 2014 WOW! Lots of brass dust. Table saw with jig and proper blade work fine for me. If I get time I'll go to the shop and do it on the lathe or Brigport, but, lately not seeing the need. Run them 12 at a time on the table saw, size, trim, and if I feel the need anneal them, GTG. Been using all the brass that has bad case necks from 223s, seem to have enough of them. Powder is the problem right now. No AA1680, no Lil'Gun, working with H4198/IMR 4198, H110/W296
Kimber45 3 Posted August 8, 2014 Tbill just ramping up to start reloading figured id get the cases converted first. I bougbt the bandsaw and going to make the jig so I can do a dozen at a time. Ordered the worlds best trimmer and a lee die set along with a single stage challenger press. Oh yeah and a lyman pro magnum tumbler. After i get rolling iam thinking of the lee load master progressive press. I had a lee pro 1000 in the past and it worked awesome for handgun ammo.... am i missing anything.... T Bill 649 Posted August 8, 2014 Just the usual items for reloading. Primer pocket tools, powder measure, etc. Maybe a depriming die. Can be done just takes time. I find cutting the old brass just below the shoulder works best. I deprime, primer pocket swage, clean the old brass first so I can sort through them. I have been using mostly milsurp brass with bad necks for this. Then cut a few, size them, then check to see how much to trim. Adjust if necessary. Then back to cutting, checking every couple hundred of so. When I make 300 blackout brass I do it in bigger lots. Try to have a 50 cal can available. Heavyopp 167 Posted August 8, 2014 Ordered the worlds best trimmer Giraud set up for 300 black?
Kimber45 3 Posted August 8, 2014 Heavypop.... man ive seen that but around 400 bucks? Really nice piece of equipment but at this point in the game I just need to get up and running.... someday I might upgrade though...
Rob0115 1,105 Posted August 10, 2014 I have the giraud and it's prob the best investment I've made. I have heads for .223, 300 and 308. Super fast and easy. I have the worlds best trimmer for 5.7 because there is no case and trimmer for the giraud.
Heavyopp 167 Posted August 13, 2014 Sorry -- I didn't realize the worlds best trimmer was actually the name of a trimmer I will buy a giraud once I get serious about loading .223 and 300 black -- right now I just don't shoot enough rifle to need the giraud Maybe once I build a 300 -- I've got buckets of once fired .223 brass that needs converting
Rob0115 1,105 Posted August 13, 2014 Let us know how it goes with the HF chopsaw? I'm considering it as well.
Kimber45 3 Posted August 16, 2014 Went the bandsaw route with a wooden jig. Can trim a dozen cases at a time and with a sharp blade not much deburing needed before sizing.
