jm1827 284 Posted August 10, 2014 Went to Range 14 with my daughter today, got there a few minutes before 8:00 AM. Good thing I got there early as we were assigned lane # 19, two more groups behind us got lanes 20 and 21 and the rest had to wait 2 hours before they could shoot. I know there was a hunter's education class today but this was in addition to those taking the class. Also, the trap ranges were closed and there was only 1 skeet range open, so there were long waits there as well. Is it me or is Range 14 getting more and more crowded recently? I used to show up @ 8:00 and during the first shoot there were always a few open lanes, not any more.
kc17 622 Posted August 10, 2014 I got there around 10 with the intention of breaking in my new Shield. Was told the pistol lanes were closed for a class, and realistic wait for rifle lane was 3 or 4 hours. I did not wait.
voyager9 3,417 Posted August 10, 2014 Anyone know if they let you call ahead to put your name in when the wait gets that long? I live an hour from the range so a 2 hour wait isn't a big deal if I can call in and leave in an hour.

Vlad G 345 Posted August 11, 2014 There is a reason a lot of people pay for private range membership. I haven't shot at a "public" range in over a decade. I'm sure part of the reason is that we just minted a heck of a lot of new gun owners over the past few years and there simply are more shooters out there. The anti's don't quite want to believe it yet.

Well, I for one believe it, based on the number of people taking the hunter's education course and the increased numbers I am seeing at Ft Dix. every weekend. And believe me if I could afford it I would be joining a private range too. Maybe once the kids are out of college!
Scorpio64 5,120 Posted August 11, 2014 Was the range still full then? If not I may have to re-think my early start strategy. When I arrived there were four empty lanes and several more opened up after the cease fire. There were also two empty handicap lanes that remained empty as no handi's were shooting that day. If anyone has handicap plates or mirror hanger, you are in like flint virtually any time of the day.
