Ramsey Outdoos lack of ATF law (Thumbs Down!!)

Recommended Posts

Back in 1983 I purchased a pellet rifle from the Paramus store, having only been my 4th or 5th gun purchase since I got my first FID card I was kind of  new to the whole stupid process, especially for a pellet rifle. well now about 30 years later I find out the knucklehead behind the counter actually did a "voluntary" registration form and now that pellet rifle is on my file of all the pistols I purchased in NJ.     the last thing anybody wants is a registered gun and these knuckleheads did it.

How did you find out about it 30 years later?

I tried another FFL to see about selling me a rifle with an out of state Drivers lic. He agreed it was not illegal according to the ATF but said he did not know of a way to process the NJ NICS to get it approved. Bottom line he said it was not illegal just unobtainable. He was trying to be helpful and felt he did investigate it. He even said I could have the the rifle sent to him but was afraid if may get stuck if he was unable to get a NICS authorization. I don't know what is involved with processing a NICS check so I'm not sure where to go from here. I may have to wait until I am down in FL for the winter to process this.

In another thread we discussed getting a NJ boaters Lic and perhaps that could be used instead of a drivers lic to complete the NICS check? Any thoughts?

For NJ NICS I thought you needed a valid NJ DL or non-driver ID?

The whole thing is screwed up, I've seen people from PA buy long guns in NJ with a PA DL before from a FFL so maybe try phoning a couple other FFL's and asking them?

Paul, didn't you ever sell to non NJ buyers when you had the south Jersey shop?

If the OP has a FL license could he pay for the rifle, get the FFL in NJ to ship it to ANOTHER FFL (in PA) and he could just go to PA and use his FL DL to complete the transfer? as long as the gun is compliant he could bring it right back over the bridge to NJ?

Huh.....something stinks !

Hmmm....

New Jersey has pick and choose laws ! You should have been allowed to purchase the gun if you have a firearms ID with your NJ address on it. I would go to another store and spend my money.

if I was the OP, I would do the same...go to another store and buy it.

And NJSP issues out of state Firearm ID Cards? really??? Man, NJ must be hurting for money esp. with whats going on in Atlantic City.

If you have two homes, have a small collection in each home...NJ compliant collection up here and whatever you have the bucks for at the FL home.

EDIT: You only need a FPID to purchase a firearm if you reside in NJ, so why can't the OP just have the NJ seller (FFL) ship the rile to a PA FFL and complete the transfer over in PA? If he is not a felon and has a valid FL DL he isn't violating any federal aws regarding a long gun transfer and a FPID isn't required to have that AR in NJ as long as it's compliant.

I would agree with PK90. There are two different threads running here. One bashing Ramsey's and the other appears to be trying to circumvent requirements. Unless I missed something ? That's why I said " Huh something stinks"

The link wasn't showing on my phone that PK90 posted, came up on the laptop.

The issue is that the NJSP NICS unit's main way to ID you in their system in your SBI and DL numbers, if their is an issue with either of those, you won't get an approval. I wouldn't know how to get an approval using a FL DL and a NJ FPID, their may be a way to do it, but I've never tried. A NJ boat license would probably work, but I've never tried that either.

I had a guy last week buy a rifle and his PD had reversed two numbers on his SBI number. NICS put him into pending until he showed up with a new correct FPID card.
