Any Good Deals On NJ Compliant ARs?

Recommended Posts

Your assuming the ATF would never work in conjunction with NJ to check the Books of NJ residents in PA.  Buy in NJ or PA makes no difference. If you purchased from a dealer its logged and recorded.

I bet the I will not Comply guy thought he was safe in PA also

There is nothing stopping the ATF from checking bound books in Alaska or Puerto Rico.

This is not a crime. It's a man standing in front of you. There is no serial number or trace to start. You want to know what guns he has for whatever reason. The ATF is not going to check every damn bound book in the US to make NJ happy. NJ will very likely check the 2nd bound books and probably already have to a great extent.

If you buy in NJ we dont give the Nics details on your transaction. They have no clue what kind, Caliber or Serial your firearm is, They also dont know if you picked up a single shotgun or 35 ar's.

I never said they did. I said they don't in PA either.

I have zero doubt that if NJ wants to find out what guns an individual might own for surrender or if they go full-scale confiscation on certain firearms (like the ones in your second NJ bound book?) that guns bought in NJ will likely be found and guns bought outside of NJ will not be.

Remember, we are not starting with a serial number. This is not a trace.

If you feel this way why do you live in NJ considering your being tracked by big brother and probably already have your own satellite.

As a matter of fact, Why do you buy any fireamrs from any dealers and create a paper trail right to your door step.

Yes NJ gun laws are complete crap for the most part but i think some people take this a bit over the top.

FYI:  Not every dealer in NJ was told to have a "Second bound book" for certain firearms.

As far as gun control is concerned I would worry about the feds. We are 2 elections away form a serious problem nationally.

I didn't suggest anybody do anything. I didn't start this thread. A guy said his friend wanted to buy outside NJ to stay off the radar. Somebody said that's stupid and makes no difference.

It does make a difference. I simply provided a reasonable potential explanation for his rationale.

I left NJ instead of working to change NJ? OK, pal, I hope you take a lot of pride in staying behind. Good for you.

Hmm, define "over the top"

Have you ever lived in a free state or just read about and maybe visited them? The gun laws here, in NJ, are over the top more than the gun owners who live here.

FWIW I had 2 agents from the ATF stop by my house about 2 years ago with a list of about 8 rifles, lowers and receivers including their serial numbers make model etc. that I had purchased over the previous year or so.  I purchased these from multiple vendors and had them transferred through the same FFL through multiple transactions over time.  Apparently there is a list and I was on it.  They suspected I was illegally manufacturing and selling guns and wanted to verify that I had them in my possession.  When I had trouble coming up with one of them I noticed them exchange a look that seemed to say "I guess we're going to have to kick this guys ass and fill out extra paperwork this afternoon".  Fortunately I realized I had mixed it up with another rifle and with that behind us we had an amusing and much more relaxed conversation about how moronic NJ laws are and that they couldn't care less if I had 12 cases of 30 round mags as long as I didn't break federal law..

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

Did they have a warrant?

Over the top would be people add to the laws..... "You Cant Own hollow points" " The NJSP will confiscate"  "You cant have loaded Magazines" etc etc  We have shit laws but some people add to it with paranoia.

Jeff,

They would have most likely visited you no matter what state you lived in.... If it were a NJ issue i would assume the NJSP would have visited you not the ATF.

It might have been an issue with that FFL and his paperwork or something made them suspect you or think they needed to visit.  Did you question why they visited or targeted you for a follow up visit?

I sold 2 new rifles to a customer / friend (Not Ar's).  Approx 30 days later i got a call from the ATF trace center asking for info on that transfer. They asked me to Fax over a copy of the 4473.  Was this i random check or was there something else that made them want this particular transfer. They don't tell you why they just want the info. There was no follow up or any future communication on this.  These firearms were sold to someone who is a stand up guy, Not a criminal nor shady in anyway.  Why did they choose him.... No one knows.

They did not have a warrant and I considered telling them that for about 2 seconds until I realized that if I did that there was a chance they could come back with a warrant and 8 more friends and tear my house apart.  I have a wife and 2 young children and honestly while it sort of sucked to do it I did not want to chance the alternative.

One of my big gripes with police and the feds over the last 5 years is that in many instances they could have showed up with 2 people, done some basic old school police work and been on their way.  Instead they default to smashing someone's door down, wrecking the place and stressing everyone out requiring years of therapy for the kids (before the kids stop sleeping under the bed every night because of the 'bad men' they fear could smash down the door at any moment) because they had bad info or the guy was a non-violent first time offender that would have come along quietly.  In this case I feel I was given that choice and acted accordingly.  They got what they needed, they realized what I was about (I like to tinker) and they told me they would ignore any additional things that came their way with my name attached going forward.  So no worries (I hope) but it was an eye opener.  Another funny thing is that they could care less about any of my other firearms (including a couple I had picked up since then), they only wanted to see those 8.

I totally agree that it could have happened in any state (since it was the ATF and not NJSP), I just didn't expect it to happen to me.  Its not like I had ordered 50 lowers.  The total list over 9+ months time consisted of 3 lowers (from 2 different vendors) 3 AK style receivers, a K98 and something else random. Not exactly a purchase pattern that I would expect to set off alarm bells and I've never heard of anyone else who's had a similar experience.

Im kinda thinking it was something else... Meaning something with your FFL or something on paperwork. i cant see them visiting for that small amount of stuff

Sounds like there should be more to this.

Short story:

During an annual inspection, unbeknownst to me, my ATF inspector saw a customer's name that kept popping up on the disposition AND acquisition side of my books. She apparently asked agents to investigate this customer as a possible person who was dealing in firearms without a license. They paid me a visit and went over my books. I knew that the customer was legit and was someone who changed his mind quite often. A bit of an eccentric. Besides, he was reselling at a loss and did not fit ATF's description of someone who needed an FFL. They paid him a visit and apparently scared the shit out of him, as I have not heard from him since. I think he blamed me for their visit.
