DirtyDigz 1,812 Posted September 4, 2014 It's looking like I won't have time to pick up any clays before Saturday. Any chance someone else can pick up a case, let me know the cost and I'll bring cash to cover them?
RecessedFilter 222 Posted September 4, 2014 I don't think I will be making this as I will be on a canoe trip all weekend I'm going to keep it short, but since this is more or less a shootout and I won't be there, please watch for any unsafe behavior and be safe shooting. Also, watch and help new shooters. Lastly, you are representing NJGF so keep that in the back of your minds. Most of the attendees on that list have shot at these before but I just feel better saying something. And sorry, don't mean to sound like a dad or anything. Any chance someone else can pick up a case, let me know the cost and I'll bring cash to cover them?Last time I went I brought my thrower and 1 case of clay birds, I was the last to leave and when i loaded the pick up I had 3 cases lol. I guess clay pigeons multiply? I got ya covered my dude. On another note I was at Walmart yesterday buying a stack of posted signs for my hunting property, they had a pallet of champion cases of 90 clays for $9.97 on rollback. Decent price in case anyone is shopping for clays. Also a buddy of mine from the NJ hunting forum (Buckfever1974) is probably coming with his daughter's as well. I think Drez has like a 53' full of fresh clays from the multiplying/breeding they do.

HBecwithFn7 296 Posted September 4, 2014 Im thinking if bring my grill.Would anyone be interested in chipping in for food.. I It usually runs from 9a-noon or shortly thereafter. So, perhaps, "brunch" maybe??? The other things is, there is still 80% chance of thunderstorms forecast for Saturday. Hopefully, that's in the afternoon, but one never knows... Also, I'd check with F & W to see if there are any regs about "grilling" on WMA property.
ogfarmer 138 Posted September 4, 2014 You can't grill there. The following are prohibited: camping, swimming, picnicking, dumping, cutting or damaging vegetation, removing timber or firewood, alcoholic beverages and fires.
DeerSlayer 241 Posted September 4, 2014 Thanks Deerslayer. Let me know what I owe ya.I paid nothing for them so that's what you owe me. Yeah no grilling at the WMA's that probably wouldn't go unnoticed if a CO happened to drive through the parking lot. But nothing wrong with bringing a snack or packing a quick sandwich. I highly recommend to EVERYONE, bring some drinks! There's no quick checks, 7eleven, or wawa's really close by. I usually bring a small cooler with a few waters and some iced tea. maybe I'll grab one of my bigger coolers a bag of ice and a case of waters if I have time. fishnut 2,358 Posted September 4, 2014 Their is an Exxon gas station with a dunkin donuts about 1 mile west of the range on rt 173 and a bagel smith just on the other side of 78 from the Exxon. And about 1 mile east is Clinton station dinner. Also the town of Clinton is just a few miles east of the range with plenty of places to buy food and drink
magnawing 5 Posted September 4, 2014 Don't forget the Pilot truck at the same intersection
fishnut 2,358 Posted September 4, 2014 That's right the truck stop has a sub shop in it also. and clean bathrooms!
DeerSlayer 241 Posted September 4, 2014 That bagel Smith has good sandwiches! I stopped there on the way home from the range a few months ago.
fishnut 2,358 Posted September 4, 2014 If you think that the bagel smiths sandwiches are good your head will explode if you get a sub from ye old sub base on main street in Clinton! its less than 5 miles from the Clinton wma range. Make sure you give your self enough time to get the full experience by sitting somewhere on main street and eat your sub while watching all the pretty women walking around! OH to be single again! LMAO
DeerSlayer 241 Posted September 4, 2014 Sounds good, but from what remember about downtown Clinton last time I was there were all the Heroin addict junkies roaming around like the walking dead! Maybe they've cleaned the place up in the last decade. I recall multiple scumbags asking me for my change last time I stopped someplace. I agree with the being single again sentiment though B)
fishnut 2,358 Posted September 4, 2014 I think your thinking of a different place. This is the one with the iconic red mill. its a very small town historic town. their are a few cheaper apartments over top of the stores on main street but they are filled with mostly illegal Spanish speaking workers now, they pretty much keep to them selves. the cops patrol main street regularly and would probably jump at the chance to escort a panhandler to the edge of town or a holding cell. Or do something besides pull speeders over because their is not that much real crime going on in clinton

I recall picking up my niece and nephew from some outings there. Lot's of good people and kids roaming around. Very safe.
Sota 1,191 Posted September 4, 2014 question for the collective... my 6 (soon to be 7) year old boy wants desperately to come to one of these. obviously there's nothing there for him to use and I'm not sure he's ready for that anyways. he'll mostly wind up sitting and observing. would he be allowed to operate the thrower? is he even allowed to be around us? I'd like to hear some people's thoughts.

I'd like to hear some people's thoughts. Would he have issues with the "noise?" Even with plugs and earphones? Could he sit still for 3-4 hours and not get to shoot? Would he always stay behind the firing line, except on a "cease fire" when we go to collect unbroken clays? As for the throwers, maybe the "electric" throwers (i.e. push the button and load the clays), but would he be able to pull back the spring on the manual throwers? And can he learn to keep his hands out of the wrong places when its cocked, etc.? Not trying to be a "negative Nelly" but if I were 6-7, you'd never be able to keep me still. I'd be all over that place, and actively wanting to shoot.
Sota 1,191 Posted September 5, 2014 Those are all my thoughts and concerns as well. Frankly I don't know if he could do all he's supposed to. Think it's going to be a "no" for this event.

As long as he is well behaved and can follow direction without screwing around, (obviously for safety reasons, never mind the guns... the throwers are what i would worry more about him getting hurt by) if you think so I say bring him. But most kids his age cant sit still for 5 minutes yet, never mind 3 hours. Its your call you know his personality we don't. I had my nephew out in the treestand at 9 he figited around the entire time. Two hours was the max for him.
