Vlad G 345 Posted September 13, 2014 The general recommended OTC match ammo would be Black Hills 69gr http://www.midwayusa.com/product/1339522299/black-hills-ammunition-223-remington-69-grain-sierra-matchking-hollow-point-box-of-50 You are looking at $1 a round then. Other things to try are various 69, 75 and 77gr commercial loads Lots of options: http://www.midwayusa.com/find?sortby=1&itemsperpage=24&newcategorydimensionid=15684&statuses=In%20Stock&statuses=Available&statuses=Closeout%20Special&searchscope=all
jrfly3006 42 Posted September 13, 2014 Thx Vlad..appreciate the links...do you think theres any appreciable difference between say the Hornady/Federal domestic offerings vs.the foreign stuff or even the reman Black Hills? Or am I just overthinking the whole thing...lol
Vlad G 345 Posted September 13, 2014 Your rifle may be a bigger variable. Some of the Wolf match stuff works great for some people terrible for others. Feed those rifles Black Hills, and those rifles would switch places. Try some and see how it goes. The perfect load for your gun is not something you are likely to stumble on at the first try. If it does, then you are lucky. For example I'm struggling to get a load that is accurate enough in my new "games" rifle.
Vlad G 345 Posted September 13, 2014 Also if you want to go for full authenticity you may want Black Hills 5.56 77gr at 2750 fps load. Also known as MK 262 Mod 1.
Scorpio64 5,147 Posted September 13, 2014 I have the same Ranier bbl as you and shoot American Eagle 62gr green tips as range fodder and have been buying Prvi Partisan 69 and 75gr match hollow point to shoot once I gain some level of competency with the rifle. PPU is not as accurate as Black Hills, but it's damned close and a fraction of the cost. PPU ammo costs about $9 to $12 per box of 20 when it's on sale. Do not compare the price of NATO spec range fodder with match or game ammo. They are not the same thing.
