LOL NJ Gun Buybacks!

Recommended Posts

could we stand outside and offer more money for some of these guns while having the appropriate paperwork and id? like not on police property lol

I don't think there is any LEGAL reason why you cant, except maybe "loitering". But the police would likely kick you out as soon as the got wind of what you were doing. Then they arrest you for for all kinds of stupid "crimes" that have no basis for arrest.

some people who have done this in NJ were asked to remove themselves from the property of buyback and approached people outside of the property. One problem is if the people turning in their stuff parked within the property boundaries. Some people were able to buy some stuff ( nothing great from what i remember in the posts) but general consensus was the sellers were intimidated by the enforcers not to deal with Joe public.

I don't remember what town this was but I assume it differs by location and logistics.

I can see the sponsers of the "buyback" being vindictive and arresting a seller.

However someone being arrested would pretty much shut down the "no questions askef buyback"

So who knows.

i only ask because there is like a set pricefor long guns I thought.  So unless we had enough people with p2p we couldn't do anything about the pistols but surely many long guns are worth more than buyback prices.  even if we offered $50 more.... just saying I think it would be hilarious to read headlines like

"CRAZY GUN GUYS BUY ALL THE GUNS BEFORE THE BUYBACK"

lol

While it sounds cute, and you 'might' get away with long gun purchase at these locations, the fact is the handgun transactions are all illegal to begin with and the authorities are willingly suspending their enforcement of the law. All the transport (that doesn't follow the law) to the location is illegal, the transfers without paperwork are illegal, and you buying a handgun on a public street (even with your P2P) from an anonymous stranger would also be illegal.

So how long would it take for the authorities to stop looking the other way? Especially if they'd like to make an example of you.

I would not consider this a buying opportunity at any price.

I've been to a few "buybacks" and most taken in are junk.

This is what they collected in Rumson last year. (When I heard about the buyback, my first thought was that there were guys who were going to cry when they saw what their ex-wives had turned in for $25. A short drive to a local gun dealer would net the ex more than $25 for the Mossberg bullpup and more than $100 for the Luger.)

IIRC in Camden it was piles of rusty old hunting rifles and that's probably what they'd collect in Newark and Trenton, too. (The gangsters keep their Glocks, of course.)

    • In 50 years of living in NJ I've never experienced any attempt to inspect the interior of the home, and only one definite inspection of the exterior for an announced reassessment of all properties and that was a drive by. About 9 years of that was living in an apartment, but still, uncommon. Every place I lived had either a finished attic, basement, or both. But they were also included in the habitable square footage on the taxes when we got there.
    • 27.00 and change in tolls to drive down the shore from Rutherford,  47.00 in tolls to go out to Long island to visit dying relatives. Now I read they are going to raise the fees in the DMV. Murphy lied just to get elected when he said that seniors will get a significant tax break with his StayNJ" program to stop us from leaving.   Keep voting for democrats...this is what you get.  Tax and spend is all they know.  Never cut anything.  This state sucks.
    • I get the added benefit that since I have a TSP rather than a true 401(k) they tax my retirement too. Yaaaay!
