55 g or 62 g for my AR15 ?

I need to get some more ammo for my AR15 for range use and was debating between some 62 grain Federal XM855 or some Federal American Eagle 55 grain. Both are about the same price. I've shot both in the past and never noticed any difference between the two. What does everyone else use?

What are your barrel specs? Twist rate? What distance do you normally shoot?

For paper punching my vote would be 55's.  Works well with 7 or 9 twist.

55 seems to be fine for making holes in paper.

I use the cheapest 55g brass I can find usually. I don't really see the need for green tip.

I like 62 as a weight, but non steel core for plinking. Nobody has rules against normal fmj.

I a m4 type AR and a full length AR both with 1/7 twist barrels. At my range I am either shooting at 50 or 100 yards.

Personally, I stick with 55gr for loaded ammunition.  I have yet to come across a public range that won't allow them but screen for the 62gr since they don't want the bullets with penetrators.  Now, my reloads are all 75gr Hornady HPBTs because they're pretty cheap per bullet for being a match bullet and I don't have to setup a second toolhead which is convenient as well as all of my rifles chambered in 5.56 are eight twist or faster.

55gr should do you just fine. I wouldnt expect 1moa results at 100yds with it but it will work.

I'd expect 3 or 4 moa from cheap milspec ammo.
