Oakridgefirearms 224 Posted October 3, 2014 Could you point me in the direction of an URL for that please? Not that it matters to me. Once I GTFO NJ, I will no longer have need for my FPID, as I would not in tend to buy any further weapons or ammo in NJ for any reason.... In fact, I dare say NJ will not see hyde nor hair of me (and my inventory) again. From the ATF FAQ page: May a person (who is not an alien) who resides in one State and owns property in another State purchase a handgun in either State? If a person maintains a home in 2 States and resides in both States for certain periods of the year, he or she may, during the period of time the person actually resides in a particular State, purchase a handgun in that State. However, simply owning property in another State does not qualify the person to purchase a handgun in that State. [27 CFR 478.11]

I guess it depends on how long one lives in each state, etc. As stated, it wouldn't apply to me as once I GTFO NJ, I won't need to purchase NJ guns and/or ammo ever again. PK90 3,570 Posted October 3, 2014 The time period does not matter. If you travel to your PA home and are there one day, you can purchase a handgun in PA. If you travel back to your NJ home the next day, you can purchase a handgun in NJ that day.

mipafox 438 Posted October 3, 2014 You need to have a "residence" in whatever state you are buying in as a dual resident. Owning property is not sufficient to be a resident, but it also not required, you need to have a "home" there that you are using. You don't think he is "residing" in Alaska? If you have places you live in 10 different states, and you spend 1 day this year at the place in Alaska, you can buy a gun in Alaska as an Alaskan resident that day. Same with the other 9 states. BTW - most states have zero requirements for any firearms transfers, so you can just check the classifieds and avoid the hassle altogether.
Oakridgefirearms 224 Posted October 4, 2014 You don't think he is "residing" in Alaska? I have no idea if he is residing there or not, I don't believe he stated what his living arrangements are. I would imagine you would need to have some sort of permanency to your home, such as a lease for a rented house or apartment at a minimum, staying in a hotel is most likely not sufficient. But, I'm not totally sure what the ATF defines as a "residence".
PD2K 115 Posted October 4, 2014 Honestly, it seems like the OP will have to go through a lot of hoops in order to save probably not that much money. Not worth the effort IMHO - just get your firearm once you're back in NJ. Most likely you're buying a commonly available firearm (not a collectable). Hell just buy from online retailers, gunbroker.com, or local dudes.
PK90 3,570 Posted October 4, 2014 Well, since the OP has not been on NJGF since 9/20/14, I don't think he really cares.
