Handgun recommendation - money to burn and permits to use

Recommended Posts

Have couple of glocks for HD/SD and a Ruger 22/45.

Got money to burn and two permits to use. So looking for recommendations.

1. I may fire them few times but then just collect

2. Love the looks of classic wood style grips

3. May be a classic revolver

4. Want to make sure the "value" stays or improves over time

Looked at Colt XSE Govt Model, Colt 1991 Combat Commander.

My experience with firearms is very limited, so appreciate any recommendations.

Look for classic Colt 1911's. Some of the re-pop ones should appreciate over time as well like the 01918. Custom 1911's by high end makers seem to do OK if kept in great shape. Colt revolvers are not going down in price much either. The snake guns in particular are crazy right now. Regardless, it all depends on the whimsy of the market so pay attention and do your homework.

Good luck.

Don't recommend race guns for a collection - I love them, but you never get back what you put in. Also, their value is too subject to industry whims and trends.

+1 on the S&W Model 41. Great collector's item - a hand-fitted, American original competition pistol capable of winning at the highest level. If you decide to get serious and compete one day - it will hold its value and perform. If you can find a modern performance center version, all the better (just do not shoot high-velocity ammo in it).

If you're serious about the collecting and retaining value, a WWII era Colt 1911 is probably the coolest thing you can own. Also, German Luger - you can get a parts mis-matched "shooter" Luger for a thousand or so. You have the best kind of problem to have, so make sure you post pictures.

Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming.

BTW, put in a word for Python. The guy on the phone sounded like he fell out of chair. Asked me if I know they are rare and going price. I answered positively for both. Lets seem if one turns up.

Also actively looking for some of the other suggestions made here.  Love shopping :-)

    • In 50 years of living in NJ I've never experienced any attempt to inspect the interior of the home, and only one definite inspection of the exterior for an announced reassessment of all properties and that was a drive by. About 9 years of that was living in an apartment, but still, uncommon. Every place I lived had either a finished attic, basement, or both. But they were also included in the habitable square footage on the taxes when we got there.
    • 27.00 and change in tolls to drive down the shore from Rutherford,  47.00 in tolls to go out to Long island to visit dying relatives. Now I read they are going to raise the fees in the DMV. Murphy lied just to get elected when he said that seniors will get a significant tax break with his StayNJ" program to stop us from leaving.   Keep voting for democrats...this is what you get.  Tax and spend is all they know.  Never cut anything.  This state sucks.
