jackandjill 683 Posted September 23, 2014 Have couple of glocks for HD/SD and a Ruger 22/45. Got money to burn and two permits to use. So looking for recommendations. 1. I may fire them few times but then just collect 2. Love the looks of classic wood style grips 3. May be a classic revolver 4. Want to make sure the "value" stays or improves over time Looked at Colt XSE Govt Model, Colt 1991 Combat Commander. My experience with firearms is very limited, so appreciate any recommendations. Bully 749 Posted September 23, 2014 Look for classic Colt 1911's. Some of the re-pop ones should appreciate over time as well like the 01918. Custom 1911's by high end makers seem to do OK if kept in great shape. Colt revolvers are not going down in price much either. The snake guns in particular are crazy right now. Regardless, it all depends on the whimsy of the market so pay attention and do your homework. Good luck.
Howard 538 Posted September 23, 2014 Well if you have permits AND money to burn then your answer is a nice decked out STI 2011 Race Gun.

Sota 1,191 Posted September 24, 2014 take your permit and your cash to RTSP, coonfinger everything you want to, maybe rent and shoot your top 5, then buy. Sounds like a great way to spend a day.
Sixtytwo327 14 Posted September 24, 2014 Don't recommend race guns for a collection - I love them, but you never get back what you put in. Also, their value is too subject to industry whims and trends. +1 on the S&W Model 41. Great collector's item - a hand-fitted, American original competition pistol capable of winning at the highest level. If you decide to get serious and compete one day - it will hold its value and perform. If you can find a modern performance center version, all the better (just do not shoot high-velocity ammo in it). If you're serious about the collecting and retaining value, a WWII era Colt 1911 is probably the coolest thing you can own. Also, German Luger - you can get a parts mis-matched "shooter" Luger for a thousand or so. You have the best kind of problem to have, so make sure you post pictures. Mikeythumbs 1 Posted September 24, 2014 Cabot 1911 very limited quantities and very nice. Should hold their value well. They are also somewhat local made in Pa. Here is their website take a look http://cabotgun.com
rauchman 3 Posted September 24, 2014 Since you already have some Glocks and a Ruger .22......I suggest a Wilson Combat Beretta 92A1. I've been salivating over this since I stuck "D" spring in my wife's 92FS.

jackandjill 683 Posted September 25, 2014 Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming. BTW, put in a word for Python. The guy on the phone sounded like he fell out of chair. Asked me if I know they are rare and going price. I answered positively for both. Lets seem if one turns up. Also actively looking for some of the other suggestions made here. Love shopping :-)
Oakridgefirearms 224 Posted September 25, 2014 If your looking for something collectable, I have a really nice Sig P49 - AKA Sig P210. This is NOT a modern 210 legend, it's a 50's vintage original surplus Sig P210.
