How much walking during a USPSA match?

I use MyFitnessPal to monitor my diet and excercise and gave myself credit for 90 minutes of "Walking - Casual Pace."  

 

I'm pretty sure my wife has a pedometer.  I'm going to have to wear it.

 

"Look hun...you told me to get more exercise.  USPSA IS exercise."

 

Whaddathink?

Ask Raz-0 , he carries a fitbit or something like it. I think he said it is in the 7-10 mile range depending how much you RO, build, etc.

that's a pretty good workout right there , add -on my nervous pacing routine and it's more like 87 mi.

Well I don't have the numbers handy for USPSA but I shot an 8 stage IDPA match at Easton yesterday and then two supplemental steel stages.  I am almost always down range pasting and my fitbit said I had done about 7,000 steps, so that isn't all that much - perhaps three of miles at best. USPSA might be a little more as stages are typically a little bigger, but then some are just standing shooting from a box too.

It depends a lot on the match and what you do and how you do it. 

 

For me it ranges from about 3 miles for a very sedentary match where I don't really work to about 17-18 miles for the mid atlantic sectional match we did at CJ. That was my record as I got to do all my usual MD stuff and wrangling for that match but got stuck without a cart, and that was without shooting, and being an RO and/or scorekeeper for a lot more people. 

 

On average doing stage building, trouble shooting, shooting the match, stage resetting, ROing and scoring as needed, clean up and go home is good for about 8-12 miles at OB and good for 5-7 miles at CJ with a cart. Just shooting a match and doing your part resetting at OB is more walking than at CJ. I would guess that if you are lazy about resetting, it's about 2.5 miles at OB, and about a mile and a half  at CJ.

You should try to RO.  Keeping up with the rabbits in your squad is tiring stuff.  I usually wake up all sore the next day.  The only good thing is that this is probably the only strenuous exercise I do.  I really should exercise more and perhaps I wouldn't be so sore the next day.

I do run the timer but it's a little outside my comfort zone.

 

I'm taking the RO course and will feel better about doing it once I've passed the test.

 

And I get the sore part.  Between running the timer and going back and forth with the nook and taping and picking up steel during last Sunday's 3 gun match my legs were  sore and I tweaked my knee or hamstring.  I've got pain radiating from behind the kneecap.  Feels like it did when I tore the miniscus in that knee 7 years ago.

Good luck with the RO class.  George will run you thru your paces.

 

I was nervous also when I first ran it.  Sometimes if it's been a while since I've actually ran any shooters, I sometimes forget so practice is your best friend.  After the class, I ran some friends who were interested in shooting USPSA.  It was good practice for me and good practice for them.

 

My shoulder is still sore from the 3G match.
