My New Colt

Been looking for an AR with a fixed carry handle. Wanted a more retro look. Today i picked up a Colt Match Target. 556 CMP HBAR. Crowned barrel with fixed carry handle. A2 stock with trapdoor.

I have one of those. That aint retro to me, we qualified with them and then played with A1s during AIT

 

I hope you put a brake on that which looks somewhat like the A2 comp. Very nice rifle.

I'm very partial to 20" heavy barrels though I do have 16's as well.

 

20's I love because mine shoot about 6" at 300 with irons and a good shooter could do better.

 

And as far as fast handling?  I can move a 20 ok.

looks good.  does it have the colt sear block and modified bolt carrier?  i'm always looking at HBAR 20" A2 colts exactly like that but never know exactly how to determine if it has the sear block or not.  i want to find one with small takedown/pivot pins and no sear block.  i'd prefer standard trigger pins too.

Very nice...I've been looking around for a retro rifle as well.

 

Was the colt new or used?  I have been looking at the Olympic Arms model with the 20 inch barrel that fits the A1 model at Atlantic arms for $719.

This was used. Barely. Has the original magazine, book and cleaning kit. No marks at all. Looking to add the dpms branson brake and a set of triangle handguards to make it a little more retro. The branson is the best i can do instead of a real a2 flash hider or 3 prong original.

wouldnt the current handguards be the correct "retro" look with an a2 style brake?  i thought triangle guards all had A1 uppers.

This is a Colt MT6601 made in 2007.  You can make this into a CMP tack driver with just a few modifications.  Add a free float assembly, change the front post and rear sight insert, add a two stage 4.5 trigger, a few tailored weights, and a sling.  You would then have a modern NM "Garand", so to speak.

A1 handguards look funny with A2 uppers IMHO. I also like A1 uppers because my brass doesn't get dented

The 6601s are shooters. I have one. I have seen many with 10-15,000 rounds on em that still shoot 2-2.5MOA.

Try a EGW brake, its much nicer. Very nice.
