Agent_Smith 1 Posted October 7, 2014 Any thoughts on this Bushmaster BCG? It's $80 at Brownells. I'm building a rifle on the low end of the price spectrum. This looked enticing. http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/bolt-parts/bolt-carrier-parts/bolt-carriers/ar15-bolt-carrier-group-prod69540.aspx -AS
High Exposure 5,662 Posted October 7, 2014 Avoid. Bushmaster. BCGs. Buy a Mil-spec bolt. It will cost a bit more but is a better value - once you factor in replacement costs when the BM bolt fails - and will be more reliable.
Agent_Smith 1 Posted October 8, 2014 Okay. Loud and clear. Will avoid. Thanks.
Vicious 138 Posted October 8, 2014 Something like this: http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=XST5BG01&name=Spikes+Tactical+Complete+5.56%2f.223+Bolt+Carrier+Group&groupid=933&fprdct=1 You may find a better price, just giving you an example. Lalo 13 Posted October 8, 2014 Look for something with standard phosphate finish, bolt made with Carpenter 158 steel that is shot peened high pressure tested (HPT) and magnetic particle inspected (MPI), internally chrome lined carrier, gas key properly staked. That Spikes Vicious quotes is fine. If you're a milspec fanboi get a BCM otherwise you'll never hear the end of it from the real "operators".
JayWilling 33 Posted October 8, 2014 There's always the standard "no-label" bolt carrier group from PSA. It's usually $99. I put one in the wife's gun...works fine. I think right now they might be selling them with a free charging handle or something too.
SgtToadette 59 Posted October 9, 2014 I wish BCM made a no-label BCG
mipafox 438 Posted October 9, 2014 I've shot a DPMS BCG (worst of all bolts) in FA for about 5,000 rounds at 1000 rpm in a shorty. Almost all BETA dumps. But for real guns I use Colt.

RUTGERS95 890 Posted October 11, 2014 aim has a 79 bcg that is 9310, shot peened etc etc....buy that one.... mipofox....how did that dpms bolt do?
mipafox 438 Posted October 13, 2014   aim has a 79 bcg that is 9310, shot peened etc etc....buy that one....   mipofox....how did that dpms bolt do?   Still works fine. Can't say as much for the gas port which I burned through on DSA chrome-molly 11.5" HBAR. Also destroyed 75% of the baffle on the PWS FSC 556 comp on it, but it still shoots sparks 5' each side so I'm sticking with it. I've certainly beaten the snot out of it. DPMS bolts at one time had (have?) a poor reputation, though. It's a fun upper, not a theater defense weapon
