DargZ 5 Posted October 17, 2014 Hey DargZ what does a full length guide rod do for the Range Officer? In a competition gun, it adds a little weight to the front to help with recoil and muzzle rise. It isn't going to be much but every little bit will help. Some claim that the GI guide rod can bind and break the recoil spring. I have not done too much investigation into this. For normal use, the GI guide rod should be fine. For a carry 1911, you may not want the extra weight of the full length guide rod.
Old Dog 19 Posted October 17, 2014 I'd go with the Ruger. I have owned both the Government and Commander models. 100% Ruger reliable and a good value. I got a good resale price on mine when I sold them. I ended up with a Sig 1911 Scorpion and Colt New Agent. I would buy another Ruger in a heartbeat.
