Have to Confess Even I Do Some Dumb $hit

Recommended Posts

So, I’m getting ready for the Hathcock Match.

The Load is developed

The rifle sighted.

And everything  is done off of an “F Class” bipod.

I find out I can’t use that bipod for the match.

OK , I can shoot off bags prone just fine.

So I go to practice.

My groups grow to 3 ½” at 300yds.  OMG not good!

¾” wide but vertical stringing.

Scope and mount ok.

Bags too hard? Too soft? Too much free recoil? Poor body position? Bag position?

$hit! This ain’t my first rodeo!

I left the forward sling swivel installed and it was climbing up the bags on recoil giving me vertical stringing.

Now I feel like a dumb $hit!

My BIGGEST problem lately is I cant hold focus for shot #5!!!! I think my astigmatism etc etc are starting to become a real problem at this point. Im struggling on shot 4 to hold focus but at #5 Im having to close an eye, open it etc etc trying to regain focus and its blowing my group. :(

I understand.  Was out practicing and around round # 20 eye fatigue was bad.

My eyes are most of my problem. When I -can- see, I'm a fantastic shot. When my eyes are weary, I struggle. When I went to my last eye exam, she said I have early stages of cataracts. She gave me five years before I'd need surgery or something. normally, to function in typical everyday living, I don't need glasses. Well, that exam was a couple years ago. I see Haley's Comet in red dots, blurriness, etc... With my glasses on, it's not too bad, but bad enough when I don't wear them. All I can say is, don't get yelled at by your eye doctor for not going in five years. She ripped me a new one for complaining about not seeing a target at 100 yards without glasses.

My mother had severe cataracts before she died. She ended up getting eye surgery where they replaced her eye lens. Once they did that, she barely needed glasses to read. Her eye sight was near perfect.

I'm very touchy about my eyes and the thought of surgery bugs the hell out of me. I'd rather lose any of my senses, but I cannot imagine losing my eye sight. But when it's time, I think I will welcome it.

My father had the lenses put in his eyes for cataracts years ago. His vision was great afterwards.
