Sig Sauer 228 9mm police trade in, worth it?

Recommended Posts

I came across a police trade in Sig 228 today, and loved the feel of it in my hand. It had plenty of holster wear, and has obviously had plenty of rounds down the pipe, but looked pretty decent down the tube. Exterior was about 70% with the holster wear. Came with three 13 round (I think) 'Law Enforcement/ Government Use Only' marked mags and original Sig plastic case. I didn't get a chance to look at the date code on it, but it was certainly made in Germany, so does that make it pre-94?

I'm wondering how hard it is to come across these, as I can't find any originals for sale anywhere. I've seen the M11 for sale, but not original made in Germany police trade ins.

I like having the police connection, as I'm a collector of US marked military weapons, but am unsure if the wear on it is enough to turn me away.

What would something like this be worth on the market?

P228 trade ins can be found pretty regularly. At CDNN, and Summit Gunbroker, Normally right around $500.00.

A shop in Kentucky had A load of them on Gunbroker for $495.00 Shipped A couple months ago. I picked up one that is 90% with matching triple SN's

NJSP are replacing the P228 with 229's   ought to be good prices.    OOPS!  Forgot all those P228 will be destroyed.

Yes you will see them upwards of 800.00, But they better be pristine or they sit till someone thats dosnt want to wait or look around buys them.

Kirk is correct. The NJSP 228's will harvest some good parts. As far as I know the frame will be destroyed but the slides and internals will be kept.

The 228 is the best sig ever made imo. Balances perfect in my hand. If it were me, I'd buy one that's well used. Check the internals. Get the guy in Manchester to refinish that bad boy and have at it.
