Moving with current P2P

Recommended Posts

Just wondering cause I may be moving in February. I put in a application for 4 P2P's. Will the permits be voided? Or the new city I move to can reissue it, or will I just have to go thru the address change and permits again?

Just curious because I may be getting a call to pick up permits soon and if voided will only allow me to purchase Dec and Jan.

I would pick them up and buy as soon as allowed.  If you're not moving until February, I'd hold-off on an address change and not sweat it.  If you lose one permit, you've lost $2........

I don't believe a permit is "extendable" by a different CLEO (unless the original one dropped dead while in office), and I've never heard of a different town's CLEO extending a P2P.  So once you're settled-in, apply for the address change and be prepared to go thru the entire process with the new town.  It is what it is..........

Remember law states you must changes your address on your Dl within so many days of moving and NJ law also states you must apply for FID change of address within 30 days of moving.

Best bet apply for exemption and buy all at once.

If you don't want to waste any permits you could apply for a multi gun exemption and use them all at one time before you move, just keep in mind it may take as long as 4-5 weeks to get it back if your town is slow to mail it to the FIU.

If I were you I would find a FFL that's okay with holding 4 pistols and buy them, you and the FFL fill out the exemption form and you drop if off at the PD. I'm at the 5+ week mark but my town is slow but once that comes back (approved) you can pick them up without the wait between permits.
