Are these magazines NJ legal

Recommended Posts

So if the law says nj dealers cannot sell temporary blocked magazines, then if I go to pennsy and buy 30 round mags, drill a hole put in a pop rivet so you can only load 15 or less Iam good to go?

I'd say you are gtg, if

1) all alterations are done outside of the jurisdiction where the mag in its current form is illegal (i.e. you buy the mag in Pennsy and alter it there or in VA or anywhere else where it is legal for you to possess it)

2) alterations are done in such a manner that they are reasonably considered to be "permanent" and "irreversible"

IANAL, but I can spend hours arguing about #2 that pretty much any alterations can be reversed with the proper tools and techniques, but this discussion will be just a waste of time. Everyone decides for himself/herself on what is acceptable. So far I was able to open all pinned pistol mags I currently have for cleaning with very few tools and without damaging those mags - that said, they are definitely not "permanently altered" while NJ dealers still sell them.

Whats the difference between these and getting a regular 30rd PMag, getting a 15rd mag blocker and replacing the internal spring baseplate with the mag blocker and not pinning/gluing the external baseplate. Then just throwing away the original spring baseplate so you can't reverse it back?

It differs in that it would require the purchase of at least a full length spring. If I have to buy a new lock plate and new spring, I'd argue I'm in the business of manufacturing a >15 rd magazine. Yeah, you could fret about constructive intent, but show me one successful prosecution on constructive intent.

I've run into very few people who have ever had their capacity checked by someone who could arrest them. Of those few, the test began and ended with seeing if there were 15 rounds in it.

So would you be against getting the magazineblocks.com locking plate with limiter and assembling them in PA, and throwing away the original locking plate?

If you remove the Block and dont use the floor plate is the mag still considered functional in NJ?

Well without the locking plate, the magpuls tend to not stay assembled under actual use. At least with the gen 3 ones. The main thing that concerns me with the block is you may not be able to go back to full capacity, but can you snap one in half without tools and have a >15 round mag.

Pk90's insert is designed so that you can't reduce it's size without ruining the ability to be a locking plate.

It's all gray area. It's about what you feel comfortable mounting an affirmative defense with.

The darker the gray, the more legal. B)

I agree. If you need tools and spare parts, I'm going to argue the gray is pretty damn dark. Spare parts only, or just tools, it gets lighter. Practically where I think you are in deep doo-doo is if you find yourself someplace with someone verifying capacity, and they can make it fit 16+ without having modified any part of the magazine.

Ok, I received my order today along with a Java Red color code follower and plate. They generally come with the typical orange. I wanted red to distinguish the loads in them from .223 rounds, red being 556 or different grains. After swapping all the guts out, I tested them in my M6..., rounds load real easy right to the 15th round in which you can ho no further, with a closed bolt, it takes only an easy smack to get it to seat.

Mag falls free both loaded and empty. I racked the full 15 rounds through without any failure to feed to eject of live rounds. Sorry, can't get to the range for a bit. I do not feel at this time they will cause any issues. Here are a few photos of them apart and together. For the price, you cannot go wrong.

Hmmmm, photos won't upload via Tapatalk. Please stand by....

I just got three of black 15/30 hex mags. Finish is great, they're really grippy and just look nice in the rifle.

My one complaint is (and this may just be my rifle) but the mags don't lock in place. It feeds one round into the chamber but the force of the bolt closing unseats the mag enough to misdeed the next round (using snap caps). Not sure if just my lower and mag catch or an issue with the mag. I'm gonna get a buddy of mine to bring his AR over and I'm gonna try them in his.

I bought 4 and cycled 15 live rounds through each of them. They seated bolt close and open without issue. They loaded and extracted with no failures. Close bolt requires a slight harder slap, but not unusual. Haven't had a chance to use at the range yet. But I don't expect any issues.

I tested 10 rounds through an aluminum c-products mag and it cycled just fine. I'm gonna try them in a different lower and see if its mine thats messed up, which wouldn't surprise me. The mags might not be polymer lower compatible.

I have yet to see a mag that can't be converted back. Even the ones that have been blind pinned and epoxied.

I'm pretty confident that my internally coupled designs can never be converted back because their bodies are cut down, so even if you manage to break them apart, the physical size of each of the 2 bodies will not allow more than 15 rounds

heres my 30 round pmags

That's a really nice looking job you did there.

thanks, it was a ton of work, but after I finished the master molds for the internal coupler/baseplate combo I can make one in about 30 seconds, that's how long it takes the thermoplastic a&b mix to solidify :)
